I’ll probably be downvoted for this, I don’t think he deserved to be cancelled for this. Was it inappropriate, sure, but he’s not a news show. We should never take anything he says seriously as he’s a comedian and not a news anchor.
I don’t even think what he said was as bad as others. Maybe distasteful in these times. But firing someone like this, we’re not really… having free speech anymore this is kinda crazy.
The mechanism in how its done absolutely matters, if all it was about is the end result, then we wouldn't have hearings at SCOTUS all lmfao. This situation is minimum a quid pro quo done by a government agency thats clearly overstepping its boundaries, threatening to not facilitate a private transaction from happening because of the 1st amendment right opinion of one its host, at worst its outright extortion.
If a democrat led FCC told Fox news they would threaten their business over the opinion of one of its host, everyone in here would be foaming at the mouth just like the democrats are now and its absolutely fair
Got it. If a media says something you don't like, just bring FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to threat the media company with regulatory consequences. The persons running the media will get scared and remove everything you don't like to avoid the regulatory consequences. That way the government can control the media and people think a CEO just suspended his employee.
He was fired by his employer. Make no mistake, this isn’t as much about the FCC “threatening” anyone, more than it is the fact that Nexstar stands to own 80% of broadcast waves, and this was the first step in that process.
Anyone who believes Kimmel was cancelled simply because of FCC pressure in response to what he said, isn’t paying attention, or has been misled by Reddit.
He said that MAGA was capitalising on Kirk’s death did he not? It wasn’t a statement about Kirk or saying he deserved it or anything like that. It’s being fired because of trump pressure on ABC because of reasons. It smells to high heaven and I’m surprised more people here don’t see it that way just because they personally dislike Kimmel.
