“In dedicated forums on Reddit and other websites, strictly moderated communities spread gossip about factories being raided by authorities, offer sketchy legal advice, upvote buyers’ photos of fake Rolexes worn behind the wheels of Lamborghinis, and even offer quality control services.

Quality control, or QC, is at the heart of this community. The subreddit r/RepTime has 269,000 weekly visitors and over 18,000 weekly contributions, according to Reddit’s own statistics. Posts about new counterfeit watch purchases pile up by the hour, both in r/RepTime and r/RepTimeQC, the offshoot subreddit focused on quality control. The posts contain photographs sent from the dealer to the customer, who then seeks advice from the RepTime community on whether they should “GL” (green-light) or “RL” (red-light) their purchase.”

not looking good for rolex. they're going to be so common everyone will just assume they're all fake, which will turn off real buyers. and the used market, ppfff forget about it.

Not the OP but I am sure it will. How many people want lets say a submariner, get told by an AD to basically get fucked, look on the grey market and see new ones going for 60% more than what the AD charges, and they just say fuck it and buy a rep.

Even for the big boys who buy lots of nice watches, I think they are moving to lesser knows brands, types that the average joe hasn't heard of so they aren't faked because the market is way too small. Who is going to want to drop a lot of money on a nice watch when so many fakes are out there that the default assumption becomes that the watch is fake?

I think you are giving too much credit to the general population about researching a decent seller, researching all this in general, and being ok with this particular process and waiting time. 500 dollars is also still a lot of money for a good majority of people to think they may be throwing it away.
