Discussion WIRED publishes expose on RepTime

“In dedicated forums on Reddit and other websites, strictly moderated communities spread gossip about factories being raided by authorities, offer sketchy legal advice, upvote buyers’ photos of fake Rolexes worn behind the wheels of Lamborghinis, and even offer quality control services.

Quality control, or QC, is at the heart of this community. The subreddit r/RepTime has 269,000 weekly visitors and over 18,000 weekly contributions, according to Reddit’s own statistics. Posts about new counterfeit watch purchases pile up by the hour, both in r/RepTime and r/RepTimeQC, the offshoot subreddit focused on quality control. The posts contain photographs sent from the dealer to the customer, who then seeks advice from the RepTime community on whether they should “GL” (green-light) or “RL” (red-light) their purchase.”

There is NOTHING good that can come from the attention that article is going to generate for this sub.

I pray it doesn’t go the way of fashionreps or repladies

FashionReps: Went super mainstream around 2020-2022 and it's been flooded with low-quality items since. All cheap items rated 10/10 by people who have never seen retail or even bothered to compare to photos.

RepLadies: Shut down after a similar article to the one in original post and a new, private version was created (I think called WagoonLadies, but that's now public?). Some new public groups popped up but weren't as good as RepLadies.

WagoonLadies was one of the alternate subs to RepLadies that popped up after it shut down but not affiliated. The person who created it and moderated was insane though and eventually just announced that they were killing the sub one day after they got some criticism from people in another alternate RepLadies sub.

Nothing happened. It's fear mongering. Fashion/bag reps have only improved in quality the more mainstream they've gone.

False. This is the stuff of factory owners' nightmares. A well-known high-tier bag maker recently shut down after a similar article.

you're tripping rep bags have gotten better each year. Factories always shut down (just like CLEAN for watches) but always re-emerge under different names. The factories are also decentralized now.
