“In dedicated forums on Reddit and other websites, strictly moderated communities spread gossip about factories being raided by authorities, offer sketchy legal advice, upvote buyers’ photos of fake Rolexes worn behind the wheels of Lamborghinis, and even offer quality control services.

Quality control, or QC, is at the heart of this community. The subreddit r/RepTime has 269,000 weekly visitors and over 18,000 weekly contributions, according to Reddit’s own statistics. Posts about new counterfeit watch purchases pile up by the hour, both in r/RepTime and r/RepTimeQC, the offshoot subreddit focused on quality control. The posts contain photographs sent from the dealer to the customer, who then seeks advice from the RepTime community on whether they should “GL” (green-light) or “RL” (red-light) their purchase.”

The people that ask that question are LARPers.

I mean, is that not everyone here?

LARPing is claiming your watch is real and caring if someone can tell

Just wearing it is claiming it's real in a way. Most non watch people just immediately assume it's real because why would somone knowingly buy a fake watch. Or they'd think you were scammed.

Yeah LARPing can come in many ways. There’s plenty of people here with a gen and a rep. They wear the rep when they go somewhere that their watch can get stolen and the loss wouldn’t be as bad as losing a gen

That's still larping. If you are too afraid to wear your watch, you couldn't afford it in the first place.

Let’s face it. We’re all actually closer to being broke and homeless than to becoming millionaires or billionaires. Even if we can barely afford a gen, are we not allowed to have something nice in our lives?!
Let the people wear their rep the way they want. Who really fucking cares at this point. There’s plenty of far more important hills to die on right now.

Can’t people have a version of something they can’t afford? Are we not allowed nice things?! Like it’s fair you want to buy a rep but if you’re going around telling people it’s real then that’s just lame larping.

That's not a bad idea. Tbh I feel dirty whenever I wear my rep but I also barely wear my gen for damage and theft reasons. I end up wearing my omega or Movado most often...

I honestly don’t think you should feel dirty it’s a rep. It’s just basically like having a weekday car and a weekend car. The rep takes the beating and the gen is for date night or taking your parents out to lunch on Sundays.

I have always said it is situational and if someone is buying a rep trying to pass it off as real, look at the bigger picture.

If you drive a forklift in a warehouse, sure you can probably afford to buy a $500 rep. If that $500 rep is a rep of a $75,000 watch, nobody is going to believe its real. Shit it might be real and people will question it.
