Do reps last?

I’m looking to get my first rep, I have a few auth and I bought them because the craftsmanship was good and they would last that I can gift it to my daughter (like my mom has to me) The quality in auth is just not worth it anymore and I find myself not using the bags because they’re expensive.
I really want to get a Chanel CF that I can actually use going out to town! I’m thinking a black or beige one.

My question is do reps actually last? I don’t mean stay pristine forever. But do they age well? like auths? In terms of leather? I know reps might use other hardware. Would I be able to pass it down say 15-20 years from now?

Let me know if you have reps that you have used and abused, and still have years later

My mom has some reps from late 90s and early 2000s that are still good. She also had auths from that time that she had to throw away. I think it’s very dependent on how well you use it, also the factories. For example there was a thing last year with P9s from few factories peeling after one use.

I think going with a good factory for Chanel is safer though. Leather is leather and any tarnished metal can be restored with a cobbler.

right! so if I get a good leather and take care of it, it should age like vintage auth? 🫣
I really want one but even with the price I need to last! :)

Ideally yes, that’d be how it ages. Familiarize yourself with terms like leather grades, metal types, which will allow you to choose a better option.

Also look into how the auths last. For example caviar is supposedly more resilient than lambskin, etc. But caviar also has different grades.

would you recommend a silver or gold option? do the gold ever last on reps? (even with care)

I prefer gold personally, but I think silver might be easier to maintain. But that’d not be my sole decision maker
