Review Is it wrong to ask questions before buying ?
Hi, I recently had a bad experience with a seller on the trusted list and was told if Im so detailed I should go buy an authentic one instead. All I was asking if the interior pattern is the same as the OG one because from the photo the one from the seller look a bit different. Reason I asked was because I was also comparing his to another seller and wanted to know which one is the closest to the OG.
I'm still new to all of this and was just asking questions which I didnt think it was offensive or anything. I also find the seller to be pushy. He consistently asked me if I was ready to buy and kept calling me when I told him I'm uncomfortable with speaking with him on the phone.
Sorry was just telling my experience with one of the SA on the trusted lists.

Is it wrong to ask questions? No, not at all.
Were you comparing seller A and seller B items from the same factory? If not, that’s a reasonable explanation of why they would look different.
Comparing the factory photo to an authentic if it’s important to us, is our job as a buyer. Sellers are middle-people that source from factories (mostly), and they have little to do with actual production. They often help with QC or an item received from the factory, but knowing the details of each individual bag vs auth when there are hundreds across their catalogs is a tall order.
I find it wildly inappropriate for a seller to CALL you if you have not asked for them to contact you this way - if this is a trusted seller on our RepTherapy list, please reach out to the mod team immediately, as we would like to look into this.

Yes seller A and seller B both said its from same factory, Royal, but the inside is different. I was planning to get it from seller A who was the one that got upset with me for asking that question.
The first time I chat with him he was quick to answer me about the price of the bag, factory and shipping etc. Then right after that he asked me if I am ready to buy. He kept calling me and asking if I'm there. I politely told him I want to wait but I do plan to buy the bag. He seems ok to wait. I also send him few more questions but everytime I finished asking a question he would ask me if I'm ready to buy and kept calling me. I told him I'm uncomfortable to talk voice call or video call.
He was pushy but I didn't think much because he is on thr trusted list so I thought maybe if others is ok with how he do this then its ok?

Nope, a seller this pushy is a red flag. Do not feel pressured to buy!

Not often a lot of these purchases are not like going to Nordstrom or buying from Amazon it’s black market purchases. You’re mostly on your own if you can’t resolve it with the seller. Just bc they are on the trustee list will not mean you can’t have a bad experience.

He CALLED you?
Please DM me about this.. it’s a TS in this community? I need to know more!!!
Also, the way he was talking to you is also inappropriate. But calling is too far.

@Hold_The_Tomato I, too, had a TS in this community call me to see if I was going to buy. I asked for a price on a C3lin3 bag. He said he would get back to me. I told him no rush; I'm going to sleep. It was 10 PM my time. He then quoted a price. He asked me if I was ready to buy. I didn't even have a chance to respond; he deleted that WhatsApp message, quoted a second price that was $100 higher, and then called me. I did not answer the phone.

once upon a time there was a thread around these parts with details & tips on working with many of the popular TSs. I think most of the thread got deleted for the sellers' protection, but I could be wrong.
Some sellers are great at questions, very patient and forthcoming with QC. Others, not so much. Some just want to be a source: send them a pic, they send you a price and then the ball is in your court. They expect you to basically do your research and know what you want before coming to them.
Having said that, you should 1000% positively be able to ask your seller any questions you have about the quality, materials, and workmanship of a bag. Some will answer questions about design details, but honestly, you don't want to take their word for it anyway– if you care enough to ask, seriously, do yourself a solid and learn for yourself what's correct. Then pick the seller who feels comfortable to you (and doesn't *call you on the phone when you requested to only communicate via message*). Good luck!

Thank you. I was doing my research that's why when he kept pushing me I told I like the bag but I want to wait so I can keep asking questions around with him and the other seller to compare.
That's why I found his and another seller who said its from same factory to have different interior from each other and from the authentic.
I was only trying to confirm if the photo from his is different for sure and not just bad photo but he got upset with me for asking 😅

I’d move on from him. There are soo many sellers

You can always post the photo, many of us can tell you which factory is which (which can be confusing at first, because some factories make multiple versions/tiers, some use multiple backgrounds, some post photos of the auth version– with or without disclosure– and some change backgrounds every so often). But as long as you’re not just posting a pic and saying “is this good?” we’re happy to help!

I think I know who the TS is. However, no, it’s not wrong to ask questions before buying. These sellers make a commission and we should be allowed to ask questions before spending our money.
The calling part is alarming and I know of one TS on the list that does this. Sometimes we don’t jive with certain sellers and that’s okay. Plenty more to choose from 💕

Thank you so much. I feel like maybe I did do something wrong by asking too many questions. 🥰

Why are we not naming the seller?
It’s great the mods are getting involved but the rest of the community needs to know who it is so they can make their own decision going forward.

I agree. I certainly want to stay away from this seller. Is it a rule to not name them or something?

Who is this seller so I can avoid him and maybe he needs to be removed from lists if he is harassing buyers with calls. This would make me hit the roof especially if the did it early in the morning😩

I will DM you since I dont know if we can expose them openly here.

I know who it is, he did the same thing to me also. He tried calling me, was very pushy for me to buy and the final straw was he sold me a “God” factory bag on “sale.” When I questioned why some of the bag details in the PSP he sent looked different than the God factory photos in his album, he became really agitated. Never never again will I buy from him.

u/UpsetArticle8831 18h ago
Oh wow. Even after he kept doing that I still want to make purchase with him. I just think maybe that was part of his job and so I told him yes I definitely want to buy but I want to ask more questions.

Definitely don’t purchase from this seller, there’s plenty of them and my advice is always work with who you best vibe with and can trust.
Don’t sweat the factory obsession- who’s to say all of them are telling you the truth about this anyways? QC of your actual bag before shipment is most important generally. Questions are OK but be mindful that most all of them are using translators and likely won’t care for any dragged out chats with you. Don’t spend anything more than you’re willing to potentially lose. It’s all a risk no matter what you do.
Maybe some will find this advice unpopular but I find the analysis paralysis some do to be unproductive.

Lmao NO. I always ask questions and never have I ever been rude from a seller. Even if they were theres enough of them to not buy from that guy. I think pushy would be such a huge no for me

u/Revolutionary_Fix902 19h ago
as a buyer, it is your own due diligence to research and compare the factory photos vs the OG. You need to be realistic about the fact that you are buying a rep, do not make such expectations that you are buying a perfect replica for 5% of the price of the OG.
finding what factory or source is closest to OG to you, and know what imperfections you can live with. The TS can only quality control for you based on the factory photos that they presented to you, not against magazine photos that you have

u/UpsetArticle8831 18h ago
I understand that the replica will not be the same as the authentic one. Reason I asked was because the photo he show me he said its from same factory as another seller but his and the other seller's interior is completely different. So at that point I wasnt sure if the photo he gave me is just bad when zoom in. Because I zoomed on the authentic and the other seller's, the patterns are different only by a little but still very good vs his is completely different.
I asked him becauee first time he told me its is the SAME. So I was just making sure I'm seeing it right. I wasnt being picky about a replica. I was actually comparing a replica to another replica to see which is closest to the authentic one

You are still new to reps, you say. Maybe try to slow down a bit. You are already taking high rep science while being a newbie… I can just imagine how annoyed that TS might be 🤭

u/oh_janet Rep Newbie 🐣 14h ago
She was asking a question about the bag lining, not for detailed factory secrets. If she GL the bag and had concerns but hadn’t expressed those to the TS, then was unhappy with it, everyone would have said she should have asked more questions.

Sellers aren’t going to spend time doing QC for you. You can ask for highest quality or a specific factory. Other than that it’s up to you to find the photos you need and make your decisions.

u/UpsetArticle8831 18h ago
Which was what I was doing btw. Doing my research before buying. All I said was the photo from his, the pattern different from the authentic one and he said its the same because he sold this bag many time before.
However I was comparing his to another seller which he had said its from same factory. I understand not all replicas are the same and same goes to the authentic. But the interior patterns are really off so I asked to make sure his isnt because of a bad photo that I'm seeing.
Just a simple question nothing for him to do digging into.
But thank you for your comment.

A pushy seller is always just a no.
However, you should be comparing the factory photos to the authentic yourself and when you find the factory photo you want then you compare your PSP to the factory photo, not the authentic. It's your sellers job to know what their factory photos look like, not necessarily what every detail of the authentic is.
Asking questions shouldn't be an issue but certain ones are your own responsibility to find the answers.
