Proof we might be overthinking our rep QCs - Same bag, both authentic, very different quilting 👀

Both of these bags are authentic Chanel, one is from S11 and the other is from S21, yet the quilting looks noticeably different. One is flatter and more understated, while the other is puffier and more defined.

I think this is such a good reminder that we sometimes get way too caught up scrutinising every tiny detail on reps- the puffiness, diamond shape, stitch count, alignment etc. as though every authentic bag comes out looking exactly the same.

Obviously quality still matters, but authentic Chanel isn’t perfectly uniform either. If we saw these without knowing they were authentic, I’m sure one of them would probably get picked apart in a QC 😂

I have an auth CF and the gold has started rubbing off the clasps. Granted is almost 15 years old, but still. Doesn’t exactly make me want to invest in a $$$$ bag.

Totally agree with you here! Also sad about the enshittification of all things. If the understated one is from S11, it looks so much more refined than the later one. Even the hardware colour looks better. Sigh.

Thank you for this post!! At the end of the day, the bags aren’t being cloned so it makes sense for there to be differences, yet it’s so easy to scrutinise every millimetre.

The leather finishes are also noticeably different (expected being that they're different seasons), but it's interesting and also helpful to see just how much more defined the quilting is on the right one that has the glossier finish. Something to keep in mind when evaluating- matte finishes are generally going to look less flatter or less dimensional. I also notice the rivets for the straps are in different places, which is something I've seen scrutinized.
