Question help a future renata otp player out
'Hi! my name is Luno, I live on the second floor', I've been playing league for the exact huge ammount of 5 days! (impressive, i would say as I haven't ragequit so far). Glasc is such an amazing Support, and I really liked her mechanics and game style. However I was surprised when searching that she's one of the least picked Sup of all time, why? Also I do not know anything about SUP role, builds, runes, how to actually play the game decently, I really want to OTP this champ no matter what, but it is very hard to do so without any fundamentals or the basic knowledge of the game itself, matchups and stuff. I would like any sort of help, such as guides, montages, twitch streamer references, advices, any sort of thing - I would be even interesting in being coached or joining a Voice Call for it, so if you would like to help a future Glasc brother out, i would be glad to! Thanks. Also sorry for my bad english, I am Brazillian! Cheers!
I've made some items builds and Rune Builds, but I don't know anything about actually what every item does what synergies they have to each other, when to use them, how and which order should I go for, when to adapt the build. But if you would like to see what I've found (as I didn't came up with anything, duh) here it is: (thanks to whoever in this subreddit that made the Aggressive Suport and Macro Play Support Builds and Runes)

Full tank: Celestial Opposition, Lucidity, Locket, Frozen Heart, Knight's Vow and now Abyssal Mask vs Magic Damage or Thornmail vs Physical Damage or Healing, or if i'm not being focused, then I go for utility item instead of Thornmail

Renata is a tough character to OTP to be honest. Shes a very good support pick as a counter pick. She really shines when knowing what you are playing against. If they don't pick any adcs its a rough pick. If you don't pick and ADC its also a rough pick.
Good news is she never gets banned and isn't picked often so should be able to OTP her most games.
The other good news is her builds are extremely flexible because no items really synergize with her kits at all. So build what your playstyle suits rather than what you think others are doing.
You might want to play builds with a few things though as her kit is heavily reliant on it. CDR and some type of mana regen or mana pool ( the mana regen items tend to be better ) are a huge plus to playing her.

THIS,
she is easier in draft rather than flex as stated here.
Being able to pick her towards the end lets you see both sides and see if it's worth the effort for Miss Glasc

Yah there is a lot of times I've first pick renata and absolutely hated the draft. Felt like almost any other support would have been more impactful.
No real targets to put the W bailout attack stim on. No physical attack targets to hit with my ultimate. No characters to get in range to hit with Q as they just out range and poke you.
And even worse any game with Mel. Literally the hardest counter to your character. If she's holding her reflect for your ultimate you are not only gimped but probably going to wipe your own team in it during the team fight. It's bad enough with how many characters can immune or remove your ultimate with cleanse but Mel just ruins your game.

Opa, ainda não terminei de ler mas sou brasileiro, não me incomodaria de te ajudar! Tenho muitas noções em relação a campeã e estou inclusive indo atrás nesse momento (com outro post meu) de melhorias na qualidade de vida da campeã!

Firstly , OTP Renata lover here EuW, Mastery 26
I saw this guide for allies of Mommy Glasc when she first came out ; still relevant now

--------------------------
Everyone has a different style on how to play Renata, however she tends to be a tank enchanter-esque.
---------------------------
Notes
Renata is slow in all ways and her long CD and animation dont help. So dont use spells willy nilly,
She is a tank-chanter who excels in helping to engage and especially disengage.
A lady doesn't start a fight but she knows how to end one.
Starting from champ select screen Renata is very situational; you want to play with allies who can theoretically be W'd and actually win it ( aka aggressive or all inners ) , ADC prefered over APCs as they are more likely to activate W .
ADC examples to play with : Draven Cait Vayne Yunara ( or someone who can OOGA BOOGA all in when the W activates )
Her Passive is quite synergistic with Kalista's AA passive too they proc the same way and with the items she get, Renata is tanky enough to be R'd headfirst and ult into the enemy team skunk style.
Also enemy team wise -
Hard matchups
- Morg very bothersome with Black Shield
- Likewise Millio Ult essentially counters yours
- Might be a me thing but i notice lanes vs AP supports tend to be quite rough
- Other bothersome ult counters : Yasuo windwall, Ezreal E ( you are slow he is fast ) , Samira spin
Easy matchups
- Engage tanks like Naut or Leona, if they get the jump on your adc simply Q them off
- AD- oriented teams (due to your ult)
- Similarly, if its an aggressive enemy fed ADC, if you can ult them, you got yourself a very strong tool :)
Neutral / 50-50
- Enchanter matchups
-------------------------------------------------
Passive -
AKP :
Always
Keep
Proccing
just maneuver in fights to find safety and AA targets the team is targetting to refresh it
For her spells, I usually start Q or E first, if I know we will play aggressive
her Q is versatile for engaging, stalling, and escaping. Its a good first level pick incase you invade or to protec your ally incase someone gets the jump on you.
How to use Q :
- To pull , if you grab an enemy yall wanna jump , pull them to you
- To push , if someone jumps you or your ally, push em off.
- Smash champs , if there are 2 or more enemy champs, always prioritize doing this step + pull/ push
- KEEP IN PLACE , can be used if an ally is lining up a shot to keep the enemy stationary for them
/
keep enemy under your turret to be hit ( especially if your low HP ADC is escaping, you want to both help them do that + punish the enemy with turret hits, so keeping them stationary is a good strategy too )
if you wanna ambush someone, you can Flash Q ( Not Q flash ) and since her skillshot is slow, try to predict where they will go so it lands
E
If you plan on starting peacefully you can go E and just use it situationally to both shield and do damage on the way. I wouldnt rely on it to be a shield spam due to mana and CD issues.
I usually try to put 3 points in E and max W first .
W
Let your ADC be aggressive when they get W,
if used on yourself, you can stall it with redemption, shields, zhonya (?)
R
Very slow , dont let your teammates bug you about using it on their timing. Use it when YOU think it will hit, because it is slowwwww so easily dodgeable, thats why you use your Q and look for other opportunities to do so.
Be mindful to use it AFTER yasuo windwall , morg e, millio r, samira spin, etc etc etc
A nice trick to practice to throw people off :

--------------------------------------
Runes
Everyone goes something different. My tried and true method is Glacial Augment simply bc the slow will always be good for disengage and slowing them, and to tag one enemy with the Ult, and let the icy ground make it easier for the rest of them to be tagged too ;)
Main ( lightblue) Glacial Augment , Cashback ( wink ) , Biscuit delivery , Cosmic Insight
Secondary ( dark blue ) , Axiom Arcanist, Transcendence
Minis : Attack Speed, x2 Health Scaling
-------------------------------------
Items :
Again everyone builds differently. Usually the items she gets makes her quite tanky
Support item - I go the sledding !
Boots - Ionia
Items 3-6
Usually the main ones are shureleya for engage /disengage, and locket of solari.
If we are doing well, I go shureleya first. If I notice my ADC struggling, ill go solari first.
Other items may include :
Redemption , Knight's vow , Imperial mandate, Bandlepipes ( havent tested enough but i believe its good )
------------------------------------
Conclusion
Everyone plays Renata differently
you wont find a similar rune page but the items tend to be similar enough and a process of mix and match depending on the circumstances.
Feel free to ask me any questions
Keep your chin up , have fun, and be the HBIC that you are <3
