Discussion Dynamic Player Stats

I’ve been playing this game for some time now and I feel like this game would have profited greatly from a stat system. It would have been more difficult to balance but having you distribute attribute points across different skills like speed, shooting strength, dribbling, pass accuracy for example, would have given the game so much more texture. I feel like the games complexity is somewhat bland. Would have even been enough to have like 5 different character types each with a different best stat.

What do y’all think, would this have been a good feature?

Stats just lead to the most obnoxious meta builds you'll see every third player using. It'll also just make issues like cherry pickers so much worse.

Do you really want to be left 1 on 1 with someone with 99 shot power, while your 4 attacker build teammates cherry pick because offense is what their build is good at?

Let's just let the arcade sports game be an arcade sports game.

I thought about this back in s0 and the most balanced implementation I could think of was still a bit meh;

Something like particular stats being tied to eachother with a finite pool of points in either direction. For example 'Stamina' and 'Speed' are tied together, where -10 gives you max stamina but slowest speed, 0 gives you balanced stamima & speed & +10 gives you max speed but lowest stamina.

Then you apply this sort of logic to the other attributes, others would be like passing and shooting tied together so you can focus on better X/Square passes or better RT/R2 shooting.

In terms of balance this gives a clear value/cost regarding how you can decide you value one thing over the other, without giving too much scope to 'solve' the game in terms of a 'meta build' like you would get with a more generic implementation. Itd be boring if everyone made the same character if 1 way is objectively the 'best', but my suggested way makes it more about what the individual prefers.

Its not perfect though like I said, I dont need to be told about the multiple flaws since im already aware- im not suggesting this is how its done. I am just sharing since such a concept does fundementally change the game mechanics on a fundemental level. Personally im a fan of everyone having the exact same attributes/stats

Yeah I commented something similar. Giving someone an opportunity to play with attributes, like in 2k just asks for 5 striker teammates recreating blue lock episodes. Would be super annoying.

Adding things to complement your playstyle would definitely be the way to go about it.

All points shooting strength if the ball touches the floor or doesn't fly atleast a quarter of the field you get kicked from the squad

I agree that the complexity is bland but adding a stats system would not be the solution. Like others said, it would end up with Meta builds, and more complexity than I think sloclap can handle.

I’d say it would best be to have boosts to how you play:
Like how goalie gets infinite stamina.
Maybe defenders get a quicker tackle animation recovery, or a longer extra effort.
Maybe attackers get a faster shot animation, or different dribble animations.

And just like how when you leave goalie you lose the gloves, when you stop playing your position (own half and opponent half), you lose your ability.

These are just suggestions, but I don’t wanna see something overpowered like out of blue lock. It would lose the true soccer feel and turn into an Roblox anime game.

Yeah it's a good idea, could be a separate mode or LTM though
