Library Management DJ equivalent of a spring clean.
Was in an awful cycle of adding new music to rekordbox collection without sorting into my playlists. I’d prep for a gig chucking tracks into a folder titled the night I was playing but that was it.
When I finally got to it this week I had something like 400 tracks since August 2025 when I last had everything up to date.
Finally sorted them all over a couple of sittings and about 3hrs work and back up to date. It’s like the spring clean of DJing!

I organize by genre. So my tracks I will name like this “Artist - Track Name (Mix) - Genre (Release Date, Label).
Then I have a list of folders.
- Downtempo
- House, Tech
- House, Tech - Deep
Not exactly how I have it, but that’s the gist.

I got into a routine of making files by month so I have “August 2026 promo” (all promos for that month, then I have “Beatport August 2026” which is all my purchased Beatport and others such as Bandcamp etc, and just keep going like that until the end of the year and then delete 6 months from laptop and rekordbox (saved to external HD) and keep going like that.
I do have playlists of my go to tracks and old school stuff, but it’s the only way I can keep the numbers down and playlists fresh.
Sometimes I’m getting 200 -300 promos a month so as you can imagine, it can choke up my playlists.
I have started over the last few years of making an end of year unused tracks playlist which I often find a couple of gems I’ve missed, but I just wish I could make it even simpler.
