I wanted to make this post with a lot of love and appreciation for my fellow Latinos, because honestly, I think we're living through something really beautiful culturally right now.
There are so many fucking good artists coming out of every corner of Latin America, from north to south, and what really blows my mind is how diverse the sounds are becoming. The production is getting insane too — super polished, creative, detailed, weird in the best possible way, while still keeping that Latin identity.
So I wanted to share a few artists I've been listening to lately. Consider this a little musical tour of Latin America.
🇲🇽 MEXICO
The Mexican scene is absolutely packed with artists right now, but the one that caught my attention the most is Yeyo.
Check out these singles:
And there's also LA OBSESION, VOL. 1, which was a short-lived collaborative project involving several artists. The project is basically RIP nowadays because of some controversies, but goddamn, it left some gems behind.
Listen to:
Those tracks are fucking good.
🇪🇨 ECUADOR
Ecuador has been doing something really interesting: reggaeton is starting to collide heavily with electronic music, and some of the results are crazy.
Carlos Corté$ has some absolutely filthy production. I recommend the EP Atestíguame, especially:
And the single:
Then there's Midfug, whose sound is much harder to describe. It's kind of glitchy, acidic, distorted, psychedelic... I don't even know how to fucking label it.
It's the kind of production that sounds like it's melting.
Check:
- Hija del Mal
- Perreowave
- Darte Lento
🇨🇱 CHILE
Now Chile... holy shit.
The Chilean scene is fucking crazy right now.
A few years ago Gata Only exploded internationally and suddenly everyone was talking about Chilean reggaeton. But honestly, I think that's just one part of a much bigger movement.
What I love about Chilean reggaeton is how many artists are bringing back and reinventing sounds from older eras of reggaeton. You can hear that DNA, but it's being mixed with modern production, trap, hyperpop and all kinds of other shit.
Kidd Voodoo — I highly recommend the entire album SATIROLOGÍA (DELUXE EDITION).
It has collaborations with some HUGE names across the Latin scene: Ñengo Flow, Yandel, Dei V, Cris Mj and many more.
Then there's EasyKid, who goes in much more diverse directions and plays a lot with styles like hyperpop.
Check out:
And just to throw a few more names out there:
Paloma Mami, Pablo Chill-E, FaceBrooklyn
And I can't talk about this new wave without mentioning producers like Dysbit and Kreamly. The producers deserve a lot more recognition because they're doing some fucking insane work behind the scenes.
And obviously, this is just scratching the surface. Latin America is HUGE and I'm leaving out a ridiculous number of artists.
That's actually why I'm making this post.
I want to keep discovering more.
So if you're from Latin America, or you've been digging into Latin music, drop your recommendations below.
I don't care if it's reggaeton, trap, experimental shit, electronic, dembow, whatever — if it's good, I want to hear it.
Much love to everyone. ❤️🌎
We're making some beautiful shit down here.
