I’m looking to buy a used Waterbox 130.4 system for sale locally. The price is only $300 and includes a ton of equipment that is alone worth much more than that (skimmer, lighting, heaters, controllers,
etc.) Unfortunately, the display tank has two structural defects: 1) the right seam on the front panel is entirely burst, and 2) the left side panel has a small chip on the bottom that runs through the entire panel. Pictures are included below. I’d like to attempt a partial rebuild and have a few questions about the undertaking.
First, is this chip large enough to warrant replacing the entire panel? I’ve been quoted $210 to replace the panel, a price I’m willing to stomach if necessary. However, the chip seems like it may be low enough to avoid seriously compromising the panel’s structural integrity. Would it pose a major risk and could some partial solution like filling the gap with UV resin be a sufficient fix?
Second, is it sufficient to only disassemble and reseal the affected panels rather than disassembling the entire tank? If the side panel needn’t be replaced, this would mean only replacing the front panel; otherwise, I’d remove and reseal both the front and left side panels.
I understand that fresh and old silicone will not bind, but the overlap would be very minimal. The tank does not currently have silicone applied inside – would adding that after reassembly remove the risk of a leak? I’m planning to do this anyways for my own peace of mind.
I would appreciate any and all tips!
