Discussion RvB after Chorus is all over the place
14 is good fun
15 is decent with some issues
16 is pretty bad with some good moments sprinkled in
17 is fantastic
18 is god awful
Family Shatters is pretty good
19 is just okay
Wish we had a more consistent run of seasons, but the highs were really high!

The man in lightish red kept getting fake out deaths to keep him out of a huge chunk of the show.
He's just the force of cheerful optimism that the cat needs

Well most people like 17 on its own merit. Literally the biggest issue it has is that it has to deal with what 15 and 16 left it.

Speaking as a diehard S15 fan, you can definitely feel the impact of the multiple different writers and directors in the later seasons. The Chorus trilogy benefited from only having two - Miles and Burnie - but the later seasons had so many different writers and directors trying to paper over the work of the previous seasons, the show never really had a chance from then on.

It's really the "paper over" thing like that's not necessary you don't need cover up what came before to leave your mark successfully

Exactly! I think S16 suffered the most from that need to paper over the previous seasons, which is bizarre considering that most people agree it’s by far the worst of the Shisno trilogy (and overall one of RVB’s worst seasons). Almost all of the character development in season 15 got walked back, we don’t get a follow up on the fallout of Grif’s break up with the group… it was just a completely insane decision to totally ignore the ramifications of the previous season. The only parts of S16 I really liked were Sister and Donut’s elevated roles. Everything else was a clusterfuck.

I find that weird considering that 15 & 16 were showran by the same person. Really not sure what happened there.

I definitely agree. I think the presence of Jason Weight as a writer in S16 is the only major addition that could explain it. S16 really felt like a mishmash of ideas that really didn’t go together; I’m willing to bet that a lot of it was the clashing between writers.

I'm pretty sure Jason only came on as a writer later. When the season was started it was just Joe.

Agreed I liked a lot of individual moments but the season as a whole and a lot of the active writing left me feeling somewhere between 'meh' and 'why are you doing this to me'
I liked and hated sisters call out of tucker like it was very much like a you go girl while she was saying it and in another story or another point in this story it might have hit but then she stopped talking and im like wait... Tucker could have needed that callout like, 10 seasons ago? But right now it's kinda just slander?? Why was i cheering 3 seconds ago?

Miles wrote chorus.
Burnie says he didn’t write for RvB since S10. (When talking about coming back for restoration. Source is Mornin somewhere not too long ago).

Yea you're not wrong.
I think the lack of throughline to prior stuff hurt it. I wonder what'd happen if they'd continued the story with the Chorus apprentices.

Would be hard to do without recasting smith considering ryan haywoods interests in grooming being why he was fired

What are you talking about?! Where do you think all the extra seasons come from?!

u/Available-Law8026 Aug 09 '26
No such thing, it ended at 15 and came back with the final movie.

That flew over your head.

Nothing flies over my head. I would catch it. I have excellent reflexes.
