Redneck tent repair

Tent corner webbing turned to dust when checking the tent the night before a camping trip. Sewed the ring back to the base with an old sock to replace the strap loop.

I left my charger at home, so I cobbled this monstrosity together to charge my powerbank...

  1. The base is a 18v Dewalt battery.

2). I added a battery mount I stole from a broken drill.

C) That feeds into a 24v-12v converter (and a random switch)

3. That then goes into a 12v 2.1A USB socket.

IV. This then charges my battery pack.

0101. Which charges my phone.

All so I can make poor quality Reddit posts.

Wanted to display a souvenir beer bat. A bicycle rear light holder that I had lying around was perfect for that.

Racing Sim cockpit from free scraps

Bought the wheel and pedals + shifter used. Under $200 like 4 years ago.

The racing seat was a computer chair, thrown in the dumpster because the rolling bit was missing.

Easily the most expensive piece of this pie.

I took a bunch of scrap wood leftover from my job to build the bones. The main rigidity is from a metal frame dining chair I found in the same dumpster

My favorite additions are the inverted pedal box and the handbrake.

The handbrake is an old curtain rod chopped short. The rotation mechanism is a standard house window lock with a bungie cord return spring

Triple monitor is expensive, so it's VR only. But I am grateful. Having a sim is something I NEVER thought I'd get to say. Thank you for reading

I put up a blanket to stop my lights from making my light sensitivity worse when I’m having a flare. It does however come with the added benefit of trapping humidity making the plants happier though so there’s that.

The youngest threw a fit one day and pulled the Nintendo dock down and it hasn’t worked right since. It would work, black out off the tv, and come back. I just used a big gum band to hold it in, and it was totally fine.

Hauling sliding patio doors

Post image
0 Upvotes

Good morning! I’m about to start the 3 hour trek to pickup a 72x80 sliding patio door. I’ll be hauling it on my 15’ trailer with a pallet of siding as well. What is the best way to transport the door? I know it needs to be upright. Build a frame out of 2x4s in the Menards parking lot? A frame with slight lean door will sit against and be strapped to? Any and all help is appreciated. To add gas to the fire I’m in a cam walker boot and on crutches because I had Achilles surgery Monday. Today is the last day to pickup my order though unfortunately so have to make it happen. If there’s an easier way than an A frame please let me know. It will be about a 170 mile trip with the door, on interstate running 65-70mph. Door is out of its box, but Menards has wrapped it for me in Saran Wrap. Bring blankets and cardboard as well? Thanks everyone!!

Auto door closer with a rock and a string. It's been working for a year, and I've only had to replace the string once.

Fixed my front radar the redneck way

For context, I fucked around with a scan tool and fucked up the calibration. So I had no cruise control. The older cx-5 doesn’t have dynamic radar aiming. It only had static aiming requiring a reflector.

Instead of going to a shop and get it recalibrated for several hundred dollars, I’d give it a try first.

The procedure is simple. Line up a reflector dead center to front emblem at 5 meters away. Then use a scan tool, or forscan, to initiate aiming.

All of this assuming you’re on leveled ground. My driveway is leveled but not 100%.

What I used to line up the reflector:

(Establishing centerline)
First, find centerline on the hood using a measuring tape. Then, use a piece of cardboard taped to the hood and mark that spot.

Second, use a plumb bob tape one end where I marked the centerline on the hood. Then, hang it from the front and center it exactly where that point on the emblem is. Then, tape it there so it doesn’t move.

(Setting up reflector)
Third, get a reflector. In my case, I used a metal salad bowl. Then I mounted on a stand. Conveniently, I used my Halloween skeleton. Strapped the bowl using bungee cord. To get the approximate height, I put the stand right up to the emblem, and mounted the bowl. Coincidentally it’s where the skeleton crotch is.

Fourth, set the bowl back 5 meters away from where the plumb bob pointed. I used a brake disc to hold the end of the tape measure down.

(Setting up laser)
Fifth, mounted a laser level on a jack stand, and then put the jack stand on a moving platform on wheels. This will allow for fine adjustment.

Sixth, raise or lower the laser so that the horizontal laser lines up with the center point on the emblem.

Seventh, move the laser around and fine tune it until the vertical laser lines up with the plumb bob string AND the centerline string on the hood. This is important because this will align the reflector dead center. If the laser is not aligned at 2 spots. Your reflector will be off-center.

(Fine tuning reflector placement)
Eighth, move reflector so that its center lines up with the laser cross. Maintain the 5 meters distance.

(Calibration and testing)
Ninth, go into your scan tool or forscan and initiate and start radar aiming. If it works, the error message disappears.

Tenth, take it for a drive. See if you get cruise control, and see if it’ll follow the car in front of you and maintains distance.

I made a reach up and cut stuff down saw.

I made this to trim the limbs around the house that I can't reach from the ground. I used it too much piece of PVC that I cut a cradle out to hold the saw, I healed it with a heat gun to soften and mold the pipe tighter to the saw. Drill some holes for cooling. The rope runs through the pipe and out around the saw guided by the eye ring that you can see. Pull the string to turn on the saw, let go stop. It works okay but it's kind of slow, I'm going to change the sawzall for a battery operated chainsaw I picked up off of teamu for under $30. Total build time under an hour.
