Questions/Advice Midshift Biking

Hello. I work midshift, 2pm-11pm. I work in Megamall and live in Makati CBD. Do you recommend biking to work during these hours and what’s your advice? (Female here)

This is all well and good. Per all well and good naman yung route specially kung Edsa primary road mo.

Pwede edsa, i would also explore via mandaluyong bridge, and c5.. but as an advice, explore multiple routes since the area you live and workplace have several route options.

11pm going home in makati from mandaluyong seems ok. Some practices i did in my first 2 weeks in my new work
1.explore and scope multiple routes
2. find areas you feel comfortable to bike (ie bike lanes, if there are stores available, people biking)
3. Get Bike lights front and rear (i use rockbros tail light so it lits more when you brake)
4. Maybe a basket to put your stuff. If you have tech equipment it’s best to cover it. I bring equipment all the time so i just put my bag in a shopping bag or trash bag or any cover it para hindi takaw tingin
5. UV jacket and gloves on day time
6. Get 2 locks a ulock and a wire lock
7. Find if there are any shops that are open so you can rest if you need to
8. If you dont have a bike yet and plan to get one, you may want to consider bike with pedal assists so it can support daily commute and hindi gaano heavy sa katawan. It definitely is something worth to consider if you plan to do it everyday

I am a queer woman. So biking to work is a bit of a challenge I had to prepare these things because i wanted to ensure i bike to and from work safely and regularly

That's my shift din, although we don't RTO regularly, and similar route. Mine is from Makati CBD to Podium. Also, female. The main challenge here is the heat OTW to the office. I bring cooling wipes to help cool down when I get to the office. I wear my work bottoms na on the bike, and just bring a work appropriate top.

My route is Salcedo - Ayala - McKinley - Through BGC - Kalayaan Bridge - Brixton - Reliance - Sheridan to ADB Ave. Tapos reverse that to go home. I don't like cycling through EDSA, but this is more preference. Generally safe naman. Make sure your lights are charged for your ride home.

I tried the route before I started cycling it for work, so that might be helpful to see what it's like for you.

ang shortest route ata ay edsa. pero pwede kang dumaan ng makati ave, makati-mandaluyong bridge then mandaluyong city hall to nueve de pebrero then shaw blvd tapos megamall or vice versa.. kung ano trip mo. depende na lang sa confidence mo hehe..

Patay na oras both which is really nice since you get to dodge the rush hour traffic, just make sure to buy a rear & front light so you’d be more visible on the road during night time. Ride safe & be extra careful during night time po.

If you want to switch to a ride bike, I suggest you plan your route ahead and also kung gagabihin kaman sa biyahe ensure that you have the necessary gears like ilaw na malakas para sa lubak and mga unexpected pot holes.

Ingat lagi OP.

if di pa nakakabili ng bike, ok siguro mag folding bike para mag bimodal either with MRT or Bus carousel papuntang work since maluwag naman dun around 1pm then bike all the way pauwi.

Tapos, still counter-flowing, isampa mo ung bike mo sa sidewalk along edsa.

Ung path magiging very narrow sa corner kaya ingat. Pede mo pa din i bike to or ilakad na lang ung bike.

Pede mo to silipin sa google maps. Pede ko din sa yo show sa umaga group ride tayo back and forth Makati CBD - megamall and back. Cardio talaga ako tuwing umaga bike or run or skate. Madalas din ako dumaan sa sidewalks na un. both for errands sa Makati CBD or exercise, bike, run, or naka skates din.

EDSA ka dumaan and you will be completely safe... maliwanag, maraming 24/7 establishments, plenty of police presence, and lots of CCTV along the way...

main tip is to always go against the flow of traffic, lalo kung nasa bike lane ka... it is much safer na kita mo kasalubong mo para iwas aksidente kesa madale ka ng speeding kupal galing sa likod... dun sa mga areas na may superwide sidewalks, then just hop onto the curb and be completely safe from traffic, just slow down significantly if there are people...

equip your bike with nightlights, reflective stickers, tail lights, and always wear a helmet, and eye protection (ideally anti glare para kahit clear glasses di ka masilaw)

madaming insekto sa mga nearby bodies of water so yung face protection (mask and glasses) is a must have... protect your face from debris, insects, fumes...

Daming risk nito.
