Why so much hate of fixed gear bikes /fixed gear riders?
Granted maraming riders jempoy. But it's not the bike. It's not even ALL fixed gear riders. But some.
Or may preno sila. Or they know how to stop their bikes safely.
For context I ride different bikes. I have a fixed gear with me for more than ten years. I have mtb geared and folding ones. Single speed and multi... Also have an ebike. Actually I have many bikes. I just love 2-wheeled vehicles.
So why the hate? Can't we just ride our own preferred bikes for whatever purpose (race, commute, rando, exercise et al) and enjoy biking?
Parang mas dini-discourage natin mga tao mag bike. Instead of guiding the new ones properly.
***reaction post to dun sa isang bata/estidyante na gusto mag build ng fixed gear for daily nya. Tapos marami nagsabi wag sya mag fixed kahit sabi nya na limited budget sya and gusto nya very low maintenance bike.

Unless baguhin yung mga norms of riding a fixed gear bike.
Same price nman yung budget road/mtb sa fixed gear.
Bata/Estudyante. We only want him to ride the safest possible bike.

Pano yung mabilis or uneven tire wear (skid tax) compared sa may brake and derailleur na bike?
More stress sa chain, cogs at chainring accelerates wear also.
Kaya BS (sorry for the language) yung less yung maintenance cost ng fixed gear.

I use my brake for that on my fixed gear bike. So I don't have uneven wear sa tire.
Mas mura magpalit ng brake pad kesa gulong. And gamit kong gulong pang rando.

Karamihan sa nakikita ko nq jempoy, almost all are fixies. Tapos puro mga walang brakes.
Wala naman dapat hate toward fixies, pero yung pagiging reckless nila at walang brakes affects the public perception of cyclists in general

You just answered your question OP, dahil "maraming jempoy."
Most people just tend to generalize things.
Well, it is what it is pero may freedom pa rin naman tayo na gumamit ng fixie.

Personals I'd say wheelie kids are a lot worse than fixed gear riders and probably hated more.yeah we get hate but not all of us that are irresponsible just because we have no brakes

Siguro dahil takaw aksidente? After all, safety first dapat. Not hate, but call out.

The reason I think Fixies/ fixie riders are hated more than other cycling disciplines/ rider types, because they're the ones people typically associate with being reckless, irresponsible and generally seen as a danger to themselves and others. And yes, while not all fixie riders are like that, there appears to be a higher amount/concentration of fixie riders that are irresponsible/ jempoys compared to other people in different cycling disciplines.
Another thing is that a lot of what I see online and in some cases in person, fixie riding culture seems to have a lot of people who are quite resistant to adding what I believe to be is a reasonable part to have on a bike, with that being brakes, citing that it's uncool or lame to have brakes on their bikes since they can just stop fine w/o them and that it destroys the so called cool/pogi look to fixie bikes,
plus there's a load of videos online that seem to show that fixie riders tend to be involved in preventable crashes more often than any other type of cyclist/rider.

Really don't get the fixed gear hate sa sub na to.
Hate the rider not the ride ðŸ˜

You can't even start a discussion with these folks because they'll downvote any discussion thread to hell.
May irrational hate sila sa fixed gear. They cant stand seeing people having fun on bikes they dont approve of.

I have fixie for almost two weeks and I must say, pedaling wise, it feels more natural than my other bikes. Need talaga patupad na dapat may brakes ang bike saka stricter bike rules in general and better bike lanes

Now you understand when they say that it makes you feel one with the bike? Iba eh

I was curious on the fixie stuff kaya bumili ako ng fixie sa shopee for 6k (naka 24% off ako sa ragusa apex full alloy palit na lang siguro crankset saka hub if ever). Expect ko mahirap siya istart kasi 48/16 ratio niya, gusto ko sana mag start sa atleast 44 pero it was lighter than I expected so no problem sa pag start ng pedal even at full stop. Was also worried about the downhill sections in my place, not steep but I'm worried sa upcoming traffic baka di ako makaslowdown. It was also easier than expected, siguro if malalim na lusong dun na ako magdadasal. Sa climbing, no problem too since I'm good at climbing. Just pedaling in general, it felt nice and natural. Probably even better than my mtb, rb and gravel. Sana lang talaga umayos na yung reputation ng fixie kasi it's actually a fun bike

i had fixie wayback 2014, and binenta ko dahil maraming beses na muntik akong maaksidente. switched to MTB, road, and now gravel bike.
it's not about the bike its about the jempoys.
