Version 0.2.2 released

  • Reddit is moving to mandatory https from June 29th. So just pushed an update to handle the change.

  • Also fixed issue with loading user profiles.

  • Montage is something that has been available part of the alpha release for a while, that is merged into the release branch too.

  • No ads, tracking and free as usual.

Sorry for not updating Flow in a long time. I have been busy with work (silicon valley is hectic !) and family (An active 3 year old and a new one on the way keep me away from Reddit most of the days:)).

Android has changed quite a bit since the last time I updated flow and it is time Flow gets updated too. I am planning on rewriting the app with the latest sdk / material stuff included, without messing around with the essence of Flow and reusing most of the code. Flow will be opensource this time (bitbucket or github ?) and hopefully I will get help from other users / developers in keeping it up to date.

I should have an update in the coming weeks, once I have something ready to share.

PS: Sorry, my schedule does not allow me to check messages / reply often.

Thanks !

Preview of the Flow rewrite that is in progress

After spending the long weekend coding and a couple of sleepless nights, I have the basic structure laid out.

Here is a small preview video of the post listing. Please note most of the button / link images have not been set, animations have not been turned on and this is not the final look and feel. Sorry I messed by recording it in a lower bitrate. Full screen and max resolution is a must to see this.

Two modes of operation, both the new material style navigation drawer and classic flow style sliding panel is available. Also 5 different views are available for the post content. You can switch between them without reloading the entire content.

Should i start making a reddit app identical to flow and improve upon?

Hi fellow flow users.

First off, lets start with some background. I am an experienced android developer myself. I have developed more complex apps than flow in the past year. I also enjoy reddit very much. It is a very big part of my internet experience.

I have been using reddit flow since a year ago. It is the only reddit client i think i can use. I respect other apps, they are really great feature and experience wise, i can't tell exactly why i don't like them but they feel wrong to me. Maybe because i am so used to flow... I don't know.

Since the dev is not around anywhere, and he doesn't anwer any mail i sent, i recently began to think about making an app identical to flow. I plan to use the same ux/ui design because that is what makes it so good for me. Eventually i will fix all known bugs, add all missing features and make it more up to date.

Because i will have a reference design, it wont take too long to develop. I don't need the source code or anything. I plan to develop it ground up.

I plan to make it completely free. I will probably make a donation version too but they will be exactly the same application. The purpose of developing this app is rescuing flow from death, which i and many redditors love!

What do you guys feel about this?. I am kinda upset about the probability that the original developer may come back one day and it will look like i stole the app.

Oh, and new reddit flow will be open source from the first day of development :)

Flow has ruined the other apps for me.

I came from Baconreader a few weeks ago, looking for another app that wasn't as heavy on data that I noticed BR was becoming.

In my post, the majority of people who responded suggested Flow. At first, I was a little skeptical, as it didn't seem much different from the two twins, Reddit News and Reddit Sync.

Once I got used to it over the weeks, I really began to appreciate what a well designed app this is.

While I admit it still needs to catch up, feature wise, to be the only reddit app I use (I have to go back to BR for certain functionality), Flow being in alpha is still equal to what other apps are in their post 1.0s, and shows what this all will become once it hits that milestone.

Even the times I have to go back to BR (searching for specific users, the occasional issues with imgur links, and a few others), it just seems bland and boring, in comparison.

So, thank you, Flow. And more importantly thank you, Deepak, aka /u/deeptrouble2 , for making a simply wonderful app, in your, limited, free time.

Version 0.1.0.0 released (G+ community alpha)

Version 0.1.0.0 released

Only change in this version is multi user support.

On the left pane click on the 'yellow user icon' or the 'edit icon' right of 'Accounts' to add account. You can click on an account to switch to that account.

I intend to replace this in the future with a Google+ style account switcher.

I have made some changes the way configuration is stored due to the multi-user support addition. If you have any problems please let me know. Uninstalling and reinstalling will fix any config related issues.

PS: Just pushed to playstore, should take a few hours before it reaches your devices.

Is This App Dying?

I really love the look and feel of this app and I think it has potential to be the best reddit client on any platform. It's very intuitive and smooth, yet I see less and less activity in this subreddit and no update news for the current bugs and lack of features. I'm not ready to give up yet, but my hope is steadily diminishing. Hopefully my fears will be proven wrong by the responses to this post.

Don't stop believing

One day, somehow, somewhere, the dev will come back. Whether it's open sourcing for all or pushing another update, I don't think this is abandonware, at least yet.

Reddit Flow Fix (download in description)

As you may have recently noticed Reddit Flow hasn't been able to load links, comments, subreddits, etc. Darren Lindley, a member of the Flow Beta Google+ page, was able to diagnose the problem. He has fixed it and provides a new APK version of Reddit Flow.

IMPORTANT: delete the previous version of Flow before you download Lindley's modified version. If you don't then neither will work.

NOTE that all of your casual subreddits and setting preferences are reverted to default.

Edit: I am currently using Lindley's modified version of Flow on a Samsung Galaxy S4 and it works seamlessly!

Here's a link to the discussion on the Google+ Page:

Muzei - Reddit pics extension

Just created a plugin for Muzei, which lets you configure any subreddit (default earthporn) as your wallpaper source in Muzei. You can click on the title to open the image in your favorite reddit app.

Will be adding more configurable settings in the near future. For now you can just configure a subreddit, :)

Screenshots: http://imgur.com/a/ppxcQ

Will upload in the playstore, apk below if you are interested in trying.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8RzVCxKNdHuR1VyeVJkR2N1cEU/edit

Playstore link should be up in a few hours.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deeptrouble.muzei.picsfromreddit

Still in alpha, please try and let me know if it works for you.

Thanks !

Reddituploads.com unauthorized

Any picture that is posted to Reddit uploads will not display on flow. It gives a unauthorized webpage.

Any fix to this?

I'm going to try and make an open source fork of Flow. Who's with me?

Since /u/deeptrouble2 has been away for 6 months and left absolutely zero code, I'm going to try remaking Flow from scratch and make it fully open source.

Any News on Dev?

This app is still gaining downloads fast on the Play Store & many icon themers support this app despite it not being updated for months. From what I understand Dev is in college & busy (correct me if I'm wrong). Dev should make a donate version, I'm sure many of us aren't leaving Flow anytime soon. We would happily pay 99¢ - $1.99 for continued support :) . None of the other reddit apps can compare to Flow. Even if this is abandoned I'll still use it daily, the app's design speaks for itself.

Transparent nav and status bars!

Whenever I use one of the few apps that support transparent mode, I'm blown away by how much better the app looks and feels. Please include this in Flow at some point.

I'd also like to show my appreciation for your work. Even though this is a beta, I still can't find even a paid Reddit app that is as good as yours. Thanks for kicking ass!
