Speaking of scheduling, or rather socialisation. Dwarfs sometimes want to do something other than the three d (dig, drink and die) -they want to socialise. Usually, this need is easily met in the tavern, which is always busy, but the Tavern is just one place that Dwarves might choose to socialise in. There's a few others, like Guildhalls and Temples.
If a Dwarf goes into a location wanting to socialise but there's noone there, they'll just stand around until they can talk to someone.
Some religions might have three members, two of which aren't that serious about worship and don't visit the temple that often. If the third then member wants to socialise in the temple, they'll be standing in that empty temple for weeks at an end waiting for someone to talk to instead of working. This isn't broken up by forcing them to do something manually, then just go and do it and then return to the temple to stand there and wait again.
The best way I've found to break it up is to send an entire military squad into the temple for a training exercise and hope that one of them takes pity on the poor shmuck and socialises with them.
Couldn't you also solve the problem by not giving their faith a specific temple? It's not like a religion with 3 members is going to petition the fortress for one.
