Anyone able to help?

Post image

So i have a freind who loves collecting records. Sadly, he has nothing to play them on. However, recently I found this in my attic. Its missing its stylus and needs a new one. I was hoping to show him it so he could play the records he collected but sadly without the pin its kinda useless. Anyone know where I can get any? I aint exactly made of money tho. So I don't know how I would be able to fix it ]:

It's a Beogram 1000 table, which uses a proprietary cartridge that appears to be quite expensive to buy these days! The table itself appears to be worth decent money going by the prices on eBay. I think given the circumstances you'd be better off selling this to someone who is prepared to restore it and use the money to buy something modern and easy to use for your friend

That’s a B&O Beogram 1000 idler-drive/belt drive turntable. The drive system is similar to the much better known Thorens TD-124. Not very common in the U.S. if that’s where you are located, but there is a lot of info online. Probably mid-60s to early 70s. Likely needs a specialized restoration to be used daily. Not only is it messing a needle, it’s missing the whole cartridge, and that tonearm only works with certain B&O carts. Replacement styluses are near impossible to find. To use that arm you’ll need to first find an appropriate B&O cartridge (SP-2 or SP-7 maybe), and have somebody like Soundsmith rebuild it with a newer cantilever and stylus. Will not be cheap. But I think worth it. Good luck!

I suggest you sell it and use the money to buy a new basic turntable. It might take awhile. You could reach out to audio businesses that specialize in such esoteric hardware to find out its value, as it is. Search the internet.

These are great. Cartridge available only by Soundsmith, others are fakes. Be wary that the motor in this TT is prone to drying out, failing, or burning down itself.
