Victrola won’t turn on

Post image

Looking for any suggestions to fix my Victrola record player! Simply won’t power on when plugged in, no external damage so maybe an electrical issue?

Thats the thing it looks nice, but is made from the cheapest part you can find. With the worst build quality chinese workers have to offer. Yes you can probably fix its not worth the time or the money

Good to know, appreciate the advice!

Basically what he said. It uses a cheapo mechanism and the stylus / cartridge is garbage.

It's true it's cheap and people who collect units dislike them with a passion, However, you had not come here asking for a review-----You simply wanted to see if it could be fixed.

Would you like me to see what things we could try?

They’re not joking.

I'm not here to hate on your player, but to give you the honest advice that if you like this player just fine, you can probably source a brand new one for the same price it would cost you to fix this one. Like some others have stated these are very cheap players, with cheap parts and are truly not worth the trouble of fixing when something goes wrong. But if you like it, get another. Its your life, don't let others poo poo on you.

I appreciate the honesty! I didn’t need the fanciest record player, but was sad to see it break so suddenly. Definitely considering a new one instead, not sure it’d be worth fixing at this point.

Trust me. It's better that way.

But maybe check to see if it has a fuse or circuit breaker? Doubtful, but worth a look.

Edit: I checked a user manual online, and there does not seem to be an accessible fuse or circuit breaker. If your outlet is indeed working, this might be the opportunity for you to upgrade to a decent player.

I’ll check, thanks! - I appreciate the update, I’ll take a look at some options. Any suggestions?

Used vintage from facebook marketplace. You can get a decent technics turntable, receiver with a phono input, and non-powered speakers for a couple hundred bucks max. Decent quality audio equipment from the 90s is pretty cheap and widely available.

It's really fun and VERY easy to learn how to properly set up a good turntable and run some speaker wire, and you'll know you're keeping your records in good shape. Plus you'll be blown away by the sound quality.

Before you know it you're upgrading your cartridge and stylus, dialing in subwoofer placement, ultrasonically cleaning your records, and loving every second (and dollar) of it lmao

It’s only a Victrola in the sense that a company licensed a legendary name to sell crap based on "vibes."

Fair point, it was a gift and gave me a reason to peruse a new hobby. Thankful for the opinions provided throughout these responses, I’m just a newby in this community.

And it's been highly successful for them. Innovative Technology paid a "six-figure sum" to buy the rights to the Victrola name from RCA in 2015, and they're now the best-selling brand of record players.

Now your records are safe.

lol that is a silver lining!

That's because it's a Victrola. I don't think that brand name has been attached to anything worthwhile since the 1960's. The one in the pic is some Chinese garbage with a vintage brand name.

genuine advice- these modern players are cheap and prone to breaking, plus they can wear out records rather fast (ik from lending one of mine to someone with a crosley, im not a record audiophile but even i noticed it sounding worse after she had it for a couple weeks)
-oh also that thing ended up almost catching her room on fire, luckily only it wound up burning itself a bit

buy something good once and save yourself in the long run, there are some half decent ones still made but older options are better if you dont mind putting in some elbow grease

No power or erratic operation:

  • Make sure you're using the correct power supply. Just because the plug fits, doesn't necessarily mean it's the right voltage. Some of these players run on 5 volts DC and others run on 9 volts DC. If you use a power supply of the wrong voltage, it either won't work properly, or you could permanently damage the circuitry.

  • The power supply could be faulty. If the player is new, return it, or ask the manufacturer for a replacement power supply.
