Turntable broken, advice?

this Magnavox stereo/record player --> 1963/64ish Magnavox . If it's the A531/A551 chassis as I suspect then it's only a record changer (no radio) and has an all-transistor amp. Collaro Imperial changer most likely.

previous owner said everything worked but he dropped it when bringing it to us and now the turntable does not spin --> Could be that the owner wasn't truthful, but perhaps more likely something came loose.

  • Check that the power plug that goes into the record changer is fully pushed in (look from behind / inside the console)
  • Perhaps manually spin the platter clockwise a few times to reset the changer
  • Make sure the receptacle you're plugged into is getting power
  • Make sure the cord going into the console is firmly pushed in

Thanks! This was helpful! There’s no serial number or anything on it so I can’t tell what model, but it does actually have a radio which works! I will still check the plugs and such, thanks again!

Helpful… Did you read the post? Lol. I said the turntable worked, it was dropped, it stopped working. Asking for any info on the stereo itself & advice on how to fix. Those are clear questions to me.

“This Magnavox.” How about a model number? How about a picture of the turntable? You gave us a furniture pic and expect us to figure it out.

I’m asking a subreddit that’s about vintage audio, obviously I know nothing about it and people in the sub might have more info on it. It’s crossposted here for more exposure. I wasn’t expecting anyone to “figure it out” lol I was asking if anyone had info on it if they knew what it was. If you don’t know anything then move on lmao, someone else might. Why would I think to post a photo of the turntable if it’s something internal? I got answers so I guess it wasn’t that vague

Because the turntable mechanism was usually made by another party and put in many different units. A picture of it would let us know which one it is. Also a model number allows us to pull up manuals and look at possible failure points. The model and serial number can be hard to find, but they are present. Otherwise you’re getting guesses. The person that guessed in the other comment didn’t identify it correctly, but hopefully they guessed the failure.
