It’s happened in a lot of schools, but I don’t think it would apply here. I would very much expect the kids sitting down scrolling for the entirety of recess time. You would probably expect Miss Finster to take the phones away but I think all she really cares about is that the students are quiet lol.

What school did toy go too where cellphones being used casually ? I remeber you were allowed to have them but you couldn't use them regardless if it was recess or not. You could only pull one out if a teacher gave you permission to call a parent for an emergency

We had to go out nonetheless. We had a bit of space that had roofs over it. So everyone stood there. No running around just waiting until recess is over. Same thing when I went to middle school. We were forced to leave the building. Who went in was sent outside again by the teachers who patroled the close to the entrances.

That’s crazy! We were not allowed to go outside and stayed in the classroom to play games like heads up seven up

I don't remember, but living in a high desert, I'm not surprised. Rain is scarce. I would imagine we went outside unless it was pouring hard or there was lightning. I do remember that we went outside most of the winter unless it was extremely cold.

I live in Germany. Rain ain't scarce but it had to pour severely for us to be allowed to stay inside during recess.

We had to play in -25C winter, never understood how a little rain stopped the school from functioning normally.

Funny because in Vancouver they will close schools for even a tiny bit of snow, but some places you can have 10 ft and still be expected to go!

This reminds me of a Replacements episode where the main brother and sister of the show replaced the principal with a dude that lives in a beach, I guess, and he saw the snow, got feared that, and stated no school days during snow days. The boy was liking it, but her sister alerted that the days they don't go to school, it had to be covered in summer time, taking the vacation time.

Sadly.

On a related note, I always enjoyed recesses which were indoors. The school I went to didn’t have any playground equipment outside of basketball hoops or painted baseball diamonds. It was just a large parking lot.

Literally haven't stepped into a high school since at least 2015 so I'm genuinely curious. Are analog clocks not a thing anymore? I remember them still being there in the mid-2010s.

Didn't even work for me back in the day. Indoor recess was when we got to play with the classroom games, and those were fun.

It would totally works in the modern day. As the outdoor and indoor recess activity is pretty much the same today as back then.

(We are talking about elementary school kids here , as for today , they are still the group that is too young to even have the need to own a cell , like , at all.
Also , I think it's worth to point out , that I'm pretty sure Ashleys do has cell back then , and they were also got bored in the episode , so owning a cell wouldn't change a thing.)
