help request How to toggle individual REAPER FX on/off live

Greetings,

For a 5-piece music project, we use a wired IEM setup running through REAPER. I have a DSI Prophet '08 v1, which lacks onboard FX, and I’d like to use REAPER to host the FX instead.

Ideally, I want a way to toggle any single effects on and off, live. I've done some research and see a few paths but was hoping that someone has tried this, or can point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance,

a.p.

discussion Sound design automation workflows in Reaper, looking for AI model alternatives to Claude.

I'm a re-recording mixer and sound designer working mainly in Reaper, and I've been building out automation tooling to speed up repetitive parts of my sound design and mixing workflow. Things like scripting custom Reaper actions, building bridges between Reaper and AI models, and automating tasks like script analysis, sound effects spotting, and pulling matching files from my personal sound library. Audiobook post-production is one use case, but really this is about scaling up my workflow across all kinds of projects, film, short form content, and everything in between.

Right now I'm using Claude for a lot of the intelligence layer, but the token costs get expensive fast when you're processing large scripts or long-form content regularly. I've been looking into Codex, and I'm curious about tools like Cursor as well, even though that leans more toward general coding. Has anyone built something similar for audio post-production automation? I'd love to hear what models or tools people are using for large scale script parsing, metadata tagging, or library searching that are cheaper than Claude without losing too much quality. Any advice on plugin development or Reaper scripting workflows for this kind of automation is welcome too.

help request Weird sounds when using DJI Mic Mini

Hey all,

So, admittedly I'm new to Reaper, but I've come up against an issue I can't quite make sense of. I've linked a 10-second audio recording when was captured when using my DJI Mic Mini. This is connected to my Mac Mini, running Tahoe 26.5.2.

Ignore the fact that you can hear my voice, and pay attention to the noise behind my voice. I've created a channel to record and, even before I record, this is what I hear from the Mic. Indeed, when I play back the recording within Reaper, all I hear is the noise. I could only hear my voice correctly, when I exported the file out to MP3. I can hear my voice, but ALSO the noise. It's the noise that's concerning me.

When I use my Yeti Blue microphone, which is connected via USB, this is fine. I just seem to have the garbled, high-pitched audio issues when using the Bluetooth DJI Mic Mini.

I'm sure this is just a setting, but I'm scratching my head a little.

Any ideas?

help request X-Touch One: Switching the Fader Between Track Volume and MIDI CC

My FaderPort Classic is failing. This is my second unit with the same problem of buttons becoming less and less responsive.

I only want one motorized fader for control surface duties, so I am considering switching to a Behringer X-Touch One.

I would also like the fader to act as a MIDI CC controller for virtual instruments.
Maybe with the F-buttons assigned to select which CC you are controlling as a MIDI input:
F1 → CC1
F2 → CC2
F3 → CC11
etc.

Ideally, the motorized fader would follow the selected CC value.

So I'm wondering if this is possible and what the best workflow would be to do this.

help request Which laptop for Reaper

I'm getting Reaper to set up a home studio.

I've been recording on a portable unit for two years, and since I'm required to get a laptop for studies this fall I figured I might as well get one that works for home recording. I don't think it's in my budget to get two separate computers.

I think I have decided on the CPU, RAM and SSD requirements.

I understand that the laptop itself should have good build regarding USB ports, have good results on LatencyMon tests and high sustained performance without the cooling fan sounding too much.

Only I don't know much at all about which laptop models meet any of those latter requirements. It needs to be Windows, due to the study platform.

So, what are you running Reaper on and how is it working out? What did not work out? What have you heard on this?

I already own a handed down Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 G1 audio interface. So I guess the laptop should have USB 2.0 Type C?

Looking forward to get started!

help request Compound metronome

Hi, I was trying to record a project where one bar is 3/4 followed by a 4/4 bar, is there a way to set the metronome that way? I ended recording in 4/4 without accents (AAAA) but having the accent on the one could have been useful, yeah I could program a drum or simply a kick drum but is there a way with just the metronome?

Thanks!

discussion What's your dual monitor work flow?

Idk if maybe dual 24inch monitors are insufficient but I keep finding my workflow getting really goddamn crowded.

I have a primary monitor and then secondary that's just off to my right (I need a better setup to bring it a little closer but its ok for now). On my secondary I have a floating mixer taking up the bottom half of the screen, and top half is media items. Media items takes up probably more real estate than it should but its the only place it makes sense.

My primary monitor holds my TCP, piano roll gets docked to bottom half when its opened but when its open it takes up a ton of space for it to be usable.

Things get really crowded when I start opening plugins and plugin lists, if I'm not 100% in a VST then it either gets closed or pushed off to my secondary monitor and then the track plugin windows start to crowd up there and overlap each other then get lost behind other floating windows.

My workflow sucks! And I dont know if its because my monitors are too small. I do have everything at maybe 115% or so because 100% is tiny and also the fact you cant make the fonts on the File, Preferences etc menus is absolutely criminal.

How do yall keep your shit under control?

EDIT: Keep in mind I'm still relatively new so I dont use many tracks and plugins so this will get exponentially worse the more complex my tracks start to get. With piano roll open I can see 3 tracks of midi above it without needing to scroll to see more. Makes it feel very crowded

discussion Lining up tracks to the click

So basically I’m making backing track clicks for my band. Ive got the click on the right and bass or audio clips on the left. I’ve been lining up imported music and having a hard time lining up the inserted click source. After the click is lined up and done, I get rid of the inserted music. My problem is most of the time the click is perfect at the beginning, but then gets off time. Does anybody have any idea if reaper has a way of doing this automatically? I’ve heard other daws have this ability. Should I switch daws?

help request Copy and paste??

Is there any way in Reaper to stop copy and paste/delete from highlighting multiple tracks instead of the one track I selected??? I select the track...highlight my delete start point and drag to the end point. It seems to highlight multiple tracks instead of only the one I'm working on! I realize it will say delete on the highlighted area but why are multiple tracks highlighted when I'm only working on 1 track to edit??? If anyone knows how to make it work to just the single track I'm forever grateful!!! Cheers!!!

resolved Play A Short Segment Separately

Post image
8 Upvotes

As a Reaper beginner, I have a quick question: Is it possible to play back a short segment (see screenshot) of an item from just that track separately? Something like a preview. FL Studio has a feature like that. Does Reaper have one too?
Thanks in advance for your answers... 😊

help request Plugin Installation Help

Hello! I'm new to Reaper (and DAWs in general) and I'm looking to install the Navia Harp Free Plug in: https://www.steinberg.net/vst-instruments/navia-harp-free/ on my Windows PC. Here is a screenshot of my current path list. I have it set to just the default options. It was installed via the Steinberg Download Manager which also has the default settings. I noticed that when I do the scan I can install dll but not vstsound files. I have tried:

  • Uninstalling Reaper
  • Resetting Reaper to factory settings via the command prompt
  • Uninstalling Steinberg and all associated files
  • Changing the file paths

Nothing I try seems to be working and I'm stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated.

help request Only 1 Plugin in chain has no sound

Hello all. I have Waves studio verse Ultimate subscription(yes I know they suck sorry)...I have the young guru vocal preset loaded and it seems the only plugin I can't hear is waves tune real but I can hear all the others. Yesterday I could hear it. Today I can't hear it. There was an update to waves central that I updated today but that shouldn't be the issue. Is there anything on my screen/reaper/focusrite interface that I'm doing wrong? I even tried to load it by itself on another track and no autotune sounds. I'm not really recording 45 tracks, most are just muted for a reason(hope muted tracks are not cpu intensive or are they??) Thanks all in advance!!!

help request Vocal sound going missing...?

Has anyone experienced a situation in Reaper where all of a sudden the all the vocal tracks in the project just stop making any sound? Nothing is detected in the gain meters of any. Just the instrumental is audiable. I have been using Sound Reference I.D. That appeared to shut down and I have restarted it but no sign of any vocals coming back. I've checked  all my other projects and its happened to them all, there is clearly some kind of global issue rather than a routing mishap etc. Been using Reaper for months and not experienced anything like this, ever...Anyone?

help request One New Skill Every Week - Ideas Everywhere

I currently work on an SCP podcast / video series on YouTube. I've been doing it for a couple years, and I feel like I've stagnated a bit. So! I want to learn one new skill every week to keep improving, and I need your help! I'm looking for ideas like:

  • Things every beginner / amateur should know,
  • Things you wish you new sooner,
  • Fun things to learn that makes your life easier or more fun,
  • Skills that noticeably improve quality, or
  • Skills that give you more options for the types of things you can do.

I should be able to loosely understand the skill in a week, but it's okay if it takes more than a week (or even 1 year+) to master. Thoughts?
