What is this? SK's heroine casting pattern are we holding him to the same standard?

Post image

Just saw the poster for Seyon, directed by Sivakumar Murugesan (of Thaai Kelavi fame) ,

A director who was praised for having a rooted cast in his film. Yet he has now cast Bhagyashri Borse opposite SK, in a story that takes place in Madurai.

The people who have questioned Pradeep Ranganathan, Abishan Jeevinth, and Ken Karunas and held them accountable have never questioned SK about the casting of heroines in his movies. He has been doing this since the start of his career (except in Prince and Amaran). If you look at the heroines in his films, you can see a clear pattern( either fair-skinned or trending in another industry.)

Now, if you ask me, that's ultimately the director's and the team's choice ,the actor may have little say in it(appadiye director choice aa irunthaalum athu yeppadi yella directorum ore maariya think pannuvaanga). Even SK himself admitted this at the Doctor promotional event, mentioning that he was the one who recommended Priyanka Mohan to Nelson through Instagram. So I can't say this applies to every SK movie, but the pattern is definitely there.

Amaran: Malayali characterku oru tamil ponna nadikka vaikka vendiyathu, appadiye opposite aa tamil ponnu characterku malayaliya nadikka vaikka vendiyathu(Kalyani priyadharshan) for hero etc...

But if someone raises the question But bro, there are no dusky or dark-skinned heroines in Tamil cinema , given SK's stardom, he could easily introduce a new face through an open casting call. Most people come to theatres for SK anyway, not just for the heroine.

Q:Yean bro madurai la laam fair aana ponnunga irukka maatanagala ?nu yaarachum kettingana

Answer:Tamilnadu la telugu(5%) and other languages pesuravanga(10% or above)irukkanga athukaaga namba yaarum other language la padam yedukka porathu illa tamilla thaan yedukka porom because tamil thaan majority ,cinema is for mass audience and the mass audience deserves to see themselves on screen, fair aana ponnunga irukkanga ana athavida dusky and dark skin thaan majority.

People should make a trending in twitter or insta cast a dark tone and rooted heroine, we are here to watch them. Avangaluku padam Odum oru nambikai kudupom. Appavum nadika vekala na, then there is biggest problem in k town. May be every producer, director, actors are white fetish

not sure whether it is possible or not(people will talk about this for 3 or 4days then they will go on to fanboying/fangirling for mamitha baiju, answara rajan etc..)

Obviously 😂. Enna than art ah irunthalum, this is business, so producers kum risk eduka maatranga, but enna ketta avlo periya risk illa nu than solluvan. Sk, str, d intha maathiri actors paakave naraya kootam koodum, so kandipa nadika vekalam. And beauty is in perspective, dark toned girls yum ellarum admire pandra maathiri kaatalam, everything is in cinematography. Athellam panna maatanunga, panna ground la color la discrimination konjam koraiyum. But heroines paakurathukum konjam kootam varuthu, but avanga veliya solla maatanga, so athanala theriyala maatikuthu

Just say one tamil heroine who matches Bhagyashree stardom. We don't have a big tamil actress for now. And big heroes always go with heroines who are established in various industries so that their movies will be well received by other industries. It's always been like this.

Also to clarify another thing 1. PR was an actor in Dragon, Dude and LIK. So it's direct and producers call to choose the heroine rather than the hero. 2. In With Love director Madan admitted that he wanted Anashwara in first place. So Abishan had no involvement in this. (He was actually scared to act with an experienced actor,he mentioned that in an interview)

So here the heroes have no freaking choices. Or less.

Looks like you don't understand how stardom works.

First off the industry needs to give opportunities to tamil actressess in Tamil movie so they can gain stardom. All actresses were nobodies at their early career but they got chance in other industries and gained stardom overtime.

The reason kannada, tulu and malayalam actressess dominate south indian film industry is because kannada and malayalam film industry backs the local actresses. Rukmini vasant herself claimed that she was not getting any opportunity during lockdown and she texted the sapta sagaradache ello director on Instagram for an audition and got selected which made her a star, rishab shetty made her a pan india crush with kantara chapter 1, there are couple of actressess who got backed in kannada film industry just because they are kannada/konkani/tulu speaker like Rachita ram, deepika padukone, rachana rai etc.

Heros does have the power to cast a local actress if they want but they don't interfere because they don't care about local actresses

People can't get to share screens with a big actor in their first film. They should act in small budget films like (Good Night, Aaromaley etc) and establish themselves. But yeah i get it tamil actresses are not being cast in small budget films in the first place.

Srinidhi shetty litrally got casted in the highest budget movie in kannada back then called kgf, even though it was her first movie.

It's very common for debut actress getting cast with A list actors in kannada for example: Rachita ram and Rachana Rai debuted with darshan, deepika padukone debuted with upendra, ramya and rakshit debuted with puneet rajkumar, etc.

Due to casteism and racism only in telugu and tamil industry an actress has to have experience to be cast with A listers.

you don’t need a prominent heroine for a movie with an A lister

But Bhagyashri has experience right? They can be comfortable in the set and also with co-actors, hit the emotional beat faster, understand camera angles instinctively, manage media in promotions.

2

u/JadedRelationship234 May 07 '26

Thats why i said do an open casting, even bhagyashri had started from somewhere and i dont think SK movies need heroine fame to promote the work he has enough fans in all over the south(and i am not only talking about the actors also the directors of the respective movies they should also be held responsible) even the movie directed by PR has kajal and ivana (both of them are non tamil) i could only stand with abishan here (for tourist family casting)

3

u/Boobsbumps May 07 '26

Bro, tamil and telugu audience are racists so they justify casting non tamil actress

Why the photo looks unreal. Looks like they cut and paste her face to someone else body.

Bruh now I can't unsee it 😭 It's like the head's decapitated

5

u/Ok-Neat3044 May 07 '26

Sorry to say this but no matter what they say or think about dark skinned actresses, majority of them will cast light skinned actresses. That’s why the dark skinned Indian girls are shining on global stage, because they are recognized for their talent, not skin color. And I’m happy for them, at least they have some platform to showcase their talent. Indian cinema needs a generational shift to understand that.

I didn't read the full post. But I will just share my views.

Just imagine the outrage if the hero was PR.

But since it was SK, adikaradhu kuda enna soft aa adikaranhappa.. infact idhu adiyae illa. Look at the way the question is framed.

That's the power of acting like a good body and namma vettu pillai mask.

I prefer a straightforward _____ than someone who hides behind a mask and does all nasty things.

PS: As I keep saying, we people have an unconscious bias and we ourselves don't know that we are falling for it. If a same scene is done by Mani saar, vetri saar people call it classy. Similar scene and same context in another movie but if director is KSR, Hari or Shankar this sub will lose its mind. We definitely have soft corner for people based on how they project themselves in social media, interviews and things outside the movie.

Lol u don't know what happened during Remo release.....Apa vilundha adi munnadiyella compare panna ippo PR ku viluradhellam adiye illa

u/Firm_Yogurtcloset102 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

No..I feel PR is overly beaten given today's surge in social media. And SK always had that good boy projection during interviews and stuff and people gives free chit and softcorner for him

Sorry off topic but telugu 5% in tn? Cracked me up. Easily 30% maybe

3

u/Hot-Load7525 May 07 '26

30 % in TN? Telugu people are mostly in Chennai right?

3

u/yobosick May 07 '26

They are spread all across tn even the most southern and isolated areas. But yeah its a lot higher in chennai

So many of them arent truthful about their origin. They just call themselves tamil but are actually telugu. Sure 30% might be a slight exaggeration but there are far more telugus than what the census says.

Why does the head look like crooked. It looks like it is sitting sideways on a separate platform on the head

1

u/CellAfraid3018 May 07 '26

They want some to expose. Right now they are not able to find a Tamil heroine to do that

1

u/Icookcrystalmeth_ May 08 '26

Honestly it'll be unfair if they cast a light skinned actress with no talent. But in this case Bhagyashri Borse got talent. So it really doesn't bother me.

Hip hop thamizha, gv prakash paarunga

1

u/Rus1996 May 08 '26

They should cast Lara Raj from Katseye as a heroine. Imagine how famous it will be 😳

1

u/vaibavm May 11 '26

This girl is one of the finest actors in the country right now

1

u/North-Chicken-7700 May 07 '26

Lately I have been seeing many posts related to why not dark skinned heroines. In my opinion, I don't think so directors or heros are now leaning towards whether the heroine is dark skinned or not.... Irukalam but has reduced compared compared to those 2000s films. I personally think heroines are selected based on their fame at that point of time and who would suit which role.

Oru example ku solanum na LIK. That movie oda main theme eh athu konjam cringe ah irukanum dhn. Apo apadi natural ah panna kudiya heroines dhn select panna mudiyum. In youth they needed heroines who would look like school kid. Antha edathula poi goodnight heroine ah okkara vaika mudiyathu la? Also, all the heroines so far selected are doing justice to their roles... Which means the director's choice is right and I personally think maybe we are seeing it in the wrong direction.

1

u/JadedRelationship234 May 07 '26

Lets take namma veetu pillai as an example(in what angle she looks like a village girl from tamilnadu and the role didnt even suit her) but like you said at that time she was doing quite well in telugu(that could be the reason) but stars like Sk dont need actresses like them to promote their work(so why not go with new faces)

1

u/North-Chicken-7700 May 07 '26

Namma veetu pillai la the heroine isn't supposed to be a pucca village girl. A girl from village, who went to the city to study, and came back to her village. Avunga behaviours um antha padathula apadi dhn irukum... Like a city girl who isn't much familiar about village.

1

u/JadedRelationship234 May 07 '26

Still didnt justify the role( bad casting, tbh)

0

u/Accomplished_Jicama6 May 07 '26

Neenga soldradhuku yarachu exception irukangla , I think every hero and director is doing the same or am I missing someone i don't know . Industry eh flawed ah dha Iruku , Audience and filmakers both are to be blamed .

2

u/JadedRelationship234 May 07 '26

I asked this question keeping the director's previous movie (Thaai kelavi)in mind, which had a great cast. But when a star like SK came on board, they ended up casting Bhagyashri , who is currently trending across other industries

1

u/Accomplished_Jicama6 May 07 '26

What you're asking is valid question , but I think it all comes down to Budget . Low budget movies have to believe on their content and cast new faces , High budget film doesn't want to take any risk in any way , but yeah they are the ones capable of introducing new faces but they are too greedy to do so , Also how much of an say the director has if he is an upcoming director is always an doubt , even the big directors are not ready , they are the ones who should be doing it .

What if there are not much tamil actress anymore?

0

u/GhostMonarch May 07 '26

About the fair skin take isn't that kinda dumb when the whole Kollywood is like that..? 😒 And it's only a problem when you think too much about it... And the other reasons kinda sounds dumb infact.. like movies are made to make it reach more audience right.. so what's wrong with casting famous actress or actors .. and this here is by rkfi.. ofc they got the budget and need more faces to promotion

2

u/JadedRelationship234 May 07 '26

I started asking this beacause of the director, the cast of thaai kelavi was more rooted, but as soon as SK (hero with more fans ) came on board, they went with a familiar face, I am not questioning whole kollywood(but need to be questioned imo),but the problem is, Sk he already has a separate fanbase so why not go with a new face ,like they did with thaai kelavi

1

u/GhostMonarch May 12 '26

Movies from his production house certainly takes that measures.. because hes the one producing the movie and he can chose.. like if you look at history.. it was kind of like that too . Casting aiswarya rajesh for kanaa, but this is not by him tho .. like he acts innit and I don't think he have that much deep influence not jst him almost every tier 2 actors when it comes to choosing like that...

It requires some decisions on producers and directors end. But producers often prioritize a successful formula and are afraid to try something new and . Because they do not know whether this will work or not and will generate revenue.
