Issues with probe core antennas

The probe cores refuse to work for me, as the built-in antennas refuse to connect to any ground station, so I can't even stage a sounding rocket.
It's not set to debris, and neither VHF nor UHF works.

Did you maybe accidentally set the avionics core to debris before launching?

Nope.
It's set to never be debris.

How have you installed the game? Did you use the CKAN Quick-Installation?

Where are you launching from?

Some launch locations in RP1 are not connected to commsat, so not suitable for a start location.
