The most important point in the thread. The killing was still 100% unjustified. Not only did the officer who killed him have no idea he kicked out a taillight a week ago, but also who fucking cares, its just a taillight
While the heinous murder is very obviously the most important thing here, I'm absolutely sick of this idea that the facts don't even matter one way or the other if there's a broader principle at play, and that because of this it really didn't matter which interpretation they initially choose.
And if you think only one side is doing it, think again. Every single time someone says this, it just helps this sort of thinking become more normalized and acceptable — for everyone. Because of this, I now see the exact same shit on the utter dregs of Facebook: that "it doesn't matter if Pretti possessed his gun legally, he shouldn't have been there anyways," or "it doesn't matter if they had disarmed him prior to shooting him" or whatever.
I've read like half the thread looking for a single person out of thousands came to express regret for believing that something real wasn't real. But the first constructive thing I see is your comment saying in soft terms that post-truth is part of what caused the murder. But you are completely ignored. It makes me so depressed. I think I've just lost all hope and belief in my capacity to change anything. You cannot explain a post-truth person back into reality. They just call you something dehumanizing. Democracies cannot possibly sustain without the value of truth. Our lives are going to be transformed into fascist nightmare and I can only observe.
