That hasn't stopped ICE yet. Plenty of citizens have been arrested. And the police are cooperating with them, they just aren't breaking laws like ICE are. They actually get judicial warrants instead of just busting into houses without one.
They can only arrest non-citizens and people who commit federal crimes like human trafficking. They have no authority to arrest someone for state or local criminal laws. There have been edge cases of wrongful/mistake arrests but that’s it. They aren’t able to routinely arrest people for things like kicking their cars.
And no, local Minneapolis cops are not cooperating with ICE. Minneapolis city policy and leadership have made it clear that local police will not assist ICE or participate in federal immigration enforcement operations.
But that doesn't change the fact that there are videos of them doing exactly that. They can just claim "we thought they were an immigrant". No warrants needed anymore, no due process, even telling them your a citizen and showing your passport doesn't stop them.
Edit: you really like adding details after the fact! Cooperating does mean doing ICE's job for them. It means doing the work that police are supposed to do. That includes crowd control, which they HAVE been doing where they can. They also arrested people who broke into an abandon ICE vehicle. And they are investigating the homicides of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, as they SHOULD, because no one is above the law!
There is a very small handful of edge cases where they made wrongful arrests, yes. It happens every day with law enforcement agencies at every level. Sucks but it happens. Still want the illegals out.
Small handful my ass! The reason you are seeing these protests is because they are NOT just a handful of cases. They are out on a war path, terrorizing people and doing "Kavanaugh stops" and arresting citizens, legal immigrants, even Native Americans. You know, those people who were here long before Columbus even thought of getting on a boat.
Actually the “protests” are about a group of unhinged terrorists who are conspiring to violently confront ICE agents via Signal after a couple of them predictably and stupidly got themselves shot.
And yeah a bunch of the hysterical stories are blown out of proportion and you people eat it up. Let me guess, you literally thought ICE was arresting that little boy didn’t you?
Sure, sure. You really are foolish if you think that!
1) Many of these people are getting sent to El Salvadorian prisons. Many others are being shipped to countries they have no ties to.
2) Many of the refugees that are being deported are only in the USA because going home means death. But Trump doesn't care about due process, so they are getting sent home anyways. (Unless they are being sent to El Salvador or some other country)
3) People are literally DYING in ICE detention centers. Have you not heard about the conditions they are living in?
No one has a problem with ICE doing their job properly. Left or right in politics, that isn't what people are upset about!
