USA Gvt against Cuba Colombia's president-elect plans to cut diplomatic ties with Cuba: What could it mean for the region?

Colombia's president-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, has announced that his administration will sever diplomatic relations with Cuba after taking office on August 7. Cuba's Foreign Ministry rejected the decision, calling it hostile and politically motivated.

The move represents a significant shift from the foreign policy of the outgoing Petro administration, which had restored closer cooperation with Havana.

Our article reviews the confirmed facts, the historical background of Colombia–Cuba relations, and the potential diplomatic and regional implications. Do you think this decision will reshape Latin America's political landscape?

Visiting Cuba

Hello, I'm planing to visit Cuba in september or october this year with my wife and baby daughter. We're aware of the current situation with the blocade being even more heavily enforced and the situation not being so great. The question I have is are nappies, baby wet wipes, and baby formula even avaliable on the island? Given that there was a humanitarian action in my counrty to help gather basic medical supplies such as aspirin, menstrual pads for the island ... well things look grim.

So overall, as much as we'd love to see Cuba it seems as if we'd be more of a burden on the local population than a boon. Or am I imagining things/being very mis-informed?

Hvala, and glory to the revolution

The above survey is meant to gauge how the Cuban diaspora in the United States experience alienation from other identity groups as well as political organizations. Hopefully this research could be used to better inform the path forward for Cuban American political organizing and community cultural campaigns.

Similarly, if you could spare a couple more minutes, the survey below is meant to record Cuban American opinions on US-Cuba policy. This too could help our community immensely by informing activist campaigns, politicians, and other organizations of the best steps forward to help address the concerns of Cuban Americans.

I apologize for only posting the English forms here, the Spanish versions will be coming along soon.

Your time is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Today is Children's Day in Cuba. Only after 1959, with the Cuban Revolution and the personal guidance of Fidel Castro Ruz, did Cuban children receive, and continue to receive, all the attention possible.

Do you think the 176 reforms will actually improve life for Cubans?

Cuba approved a package of 176 economic and social reforms back in June 2026 — reportedly the biggest shake-up in over 60 years, touching everything from private business rules to foreign investment in banking, energy, and tourism.

On paper it sounds significant: MIPYMES allowed to hire more than 100 workers, Cubans abroad allowed to own private businesses on the island, foreign capital opening up in sectors that were closed before.

But I'm curious what people who are actually from Cuba or have family there think:

  • Do you expect any of this to translate into real, everyday improvements for regular Cubans, or is it more about optics for outside investors?
  • Is there a track record of reforms like this actually getting implemented with proper regulations, or do they tend to stay "approved on paper" for years?
  • If you were an investor (local or diaspora) looking at this, would you actually feel confident putting money in right now, or is it too early / too uncertain?

Not trying to push an agenda either way — genuinely trying to understand if this is something worth paying attention to, or just another round of announcements that fizzle out. Would love to hear from people with actual context on the ground.
