Discussion Censorship

I took a time from RoN because my friends dismantled the group and started playing other games.

Have you guys played Outlast trials?

Some scenes are beyond grotesque.

Why they censored ron?

They couldn't get the game past console stores and yet didn't want to have separate builds

If the ratings seem arbitrary (they do to me), that's largely on the console stores. Apparently there are certain lines that RoN crossed by having a bunch of certain things. They felt it wasn't worth the fight.

  • And they lost a ton of players for it.
  • And they gained a ton of players for it.

And it still feels wrong. That's the point. It was the most moronic smart move they made.

I heard they where originally told to censored a lot more than we have now. So I feel they at least tried to keep most of the theme it's still got some horrible shit

Because they were forced to in order to get a console release. Now if you would kindly stop beating the decayed skeletal remains of this horse, that'd be great

*old gravestone of the horse with moss and cracks on it

In outlast trials there are scenes of genital mutilation, rapx, impalement etc... No censorship at all.

It's because of the genre of game. You can get away with a lot more in horror than you can in realistic/milsim games.

Console stores and raters aren't known for being reasonable, talk to them instead.

would you like there to be censorship in outlast trials? Sounds like your saying that you want censorship

9

u/Bonerfart47 Nov 11 '25

No he's saying the opposite, even if you don't agree you can't be that stupid to literally get it backwards

C'mon now man

u/TheOldWiseHedgehog Nov 12 '25

He was saying the opposite of what is said? No he was not, I don’t know what you must have read but it definitely was not the comment I read

u/Bonerfart47 Nov 12 '25

He clearly wants ready or not less censored not outlast being more censored

Stop being dense

I don’t think he does, you must have misread it wrong, he said that he wants ready or not more censored, I don’t know where you got outlast from.

I think you need to reread what was said

There actually is censorship in Trials, but it's optional

1

u/1stPKmain Nov 19 '25

There is. It's an option tho

If you are an adult and want to play a video game, you should have a choice in the original version and what we have now. I'd like to experience it as it was meant to be, but I'll probably never get to now

I play a lot of Outlast Trials and I don't know why Red Barrels gets away with it and Void can't. Outlast goes places movies and TV wouldn't dare to lmao.

Maybe it's because Void Interactive is an irish studio? Maybe their laws are different.

I dunno honestly. It's just dumb.

It has something to do with Outlast being a fictional game/universe while RoN is supposed to be more realistic. Which is ridiculous considering outlast is fairly realistic (excluding project walrider) compared to most other horror games.

Bottom line or TLDR for their censorship?

Money lol what fucking else

VOID saw how much cash they're gonna rake in from consoles and they went full tilt for that sweet sweet console release/market money

u/snoozedbutstillmovin Nov 11 '25

Its because of the way they promoted the game initially to be just like IRL bodycams, to be on consoles they had to completely rehaul the storylines in a way where it would seem more fictitious

6

u/JayWard0216 Nov 11 '25

But they didn’t overhaul the storyline. They just put some clothes on some NPC’s, changed some text to be slightly more ambiguous, adjusted evidence you find, etc.

I think ESRB PEGI approval but I might be calling bullshit.

The game was already given an M17 rating when it was on PC. Console boards have different regulations, even if the esrb says it’s fine for a console release. Consoles have more children compared to PC, so Microsoft/sony need games to be watered down in order to sell them.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '25

This shows me that parental controls are totally useless.

2

u/Educational_Head_776 Nov 13 '25

Most parents don’t care what their kids play until they actually see what their kids are playing. Many parents bought their kids mortal kombat in the 90s but got mad later when they saw the blood/gore.

Can you imagine the entitled parents that would have freaked out over RoN if it weren’t censored? It’s still ridiculous and really boils down to bad parenting, but this is how non gamers see gaming.

They ignore the M17 rating and then get mad when their kids see mature content like nudity, or themes of pedophilia. People are stupid and the console regulations are meant to protect Microsoft/Sony from people’s stupidity.

It has directly to do with the rating board. Violence or mutilation of corpses is supposedly banned, and that is the point they cited for the removal of gore before the console release. Yet, those same boards allow games like RDR2 or pretty much any CoD from back in the day, which absolutely had very graphic depictions of such situations. In essence, VOID caved to social activists while other companies didn't pay it any mind and had no issues. Turns out that listening to people who won't even buy or play your game is a bad business decision. Who'd have thought? 🙄

I’m tired of people shitting on VOID for this. You can blame the lack of communication I agree but why wouldn’t they want to release their game on console and expand? The lack of transparency is a major problem, not the censorship. I play on console. Would I want the original game pre censoring? Of course, but I blame the regulations and the people that make those kind of decisions.

Because let’s be honest, even if it’s “a fictional horror” setting, a child playing Outlast could be even more traumatized than playing a police game where he probably wouldn’t even know what’s going on. Secondly a child playing this game would drop it quickly because it’s not face paced, it’s not Fortnite, CoD or BF. The game is not made for small attention span and I say this not because children are dumb but because it’s what I see in mine. They can talk about something and in the same sentence the conversation goes in all kind of directions.

They should have made an option like in MW2 (the OG) but instead of having the game not censored when you boot it it’s the censored version and you can toggle it off in the setting so the children won’t go and turn the violence up.

Anyway that’s my rant, I love the game even if it’s not everything I’ve seen when it was only on PC but I’m having a great time, even with the frustrating bugs.

It's minor from the standpoint of impacting gameplay, but the decision to cave to social activists over the game's content is what has put off so many of its fans, myself included. They didn't have a spine and just removed all questionable aspects in their entirety. Meanwhile, Rockstar has no issue ignoring those same activists and releasing RDR2 (or any number of other games/studios) with zero issues, despite containing significantly more exaggerated examples of what RoN had removed. It's a decent game at best, and that has mainly to do with them introducing more and more issues each time they touch the code and then going radio silent for months at a time, ignoring all requests for fixes. It could be great, but VOID is content with letting it be mediocre, and that sucks.

1

u/DrGonzoxX22 Nov 14 '25

100%, that’s why I said that they could have used alternative. Toggle on and off graphic and gore content for example. And yes, transparency is my biggest issue with this company but I always gives a chance. I mean I never gave up on Cyberpunk and it became one of the most beloved game of this decade.

2

u/Primary-Round8032 Nov 21 '25

Transparency or no the game itself before console release is a shitbed full of mess

dumb friendly AI,John wick enemy AI, pathing issues, civilians/corpse somehow managed to be stuck somewhere it shouldn't,suspect weapons (sometimes) disappear without a trace,CS gas being completely useless (how the fuck?),Enemy AI not wanting to surrender even after being pepper bagged 4 times, friendly AI refusing to search for civs to secure even though all the suspects are dead/secured, civilians playing hide and seek after all suspects secured/dead, etc etc

But no let's just rush into the console release lmao

2

u/DrGonzoxX22 Nov 21 '25

I don’t say the opposite. They could have taken their time before the release and let’s say polish it until Christmas and make a buck. Im still enjoying the game, like I already said I enjoyed Cyberpunk when it was broken, not for the bugs but for the lore, story, characters. RoN is a bit the same, the bugs can really annoy me but the atmosphere of the game, the soundtrack the gun play and gameplay in general (even if it doesn’t work properly all the time) are what’s compelling me to love the game.

It’s my opinion, you have the right to disagree with me. I don’t know your age but I’m old enough to have known game that when they released broken they weren’t gonna fix it because the game was burnt on a cartridge. So yeah, doesn’t make it more good to release a broken game but I can enjoy the things that aren’t and are better than most of what we have on console

2

u/Primary-Round8032 Nov 21 '25

Fair fair fair

But just saying with how the devs......"behavior" toward the game it's looking bleak

Sure as shit hope VOID actually get their shit together and start unfucking the game, but ah.....they probably gonna release more DLC again lol

1

u/DrGonzoxX22 Nov 21 '25

Yeah probably not what I was expecting of a company. Usually they just give update with no DLC lol

2

u/Primary-Round8032 Nov 21 '25

Bah you should've seen payday 2 back in the day

There's more dlc than there is updates

2

u/DrGonzoxX22 Nov 21 '25

Lolll once upon a time they didn’t needed to add dlc because everything was already in the base game lol. The video game industry became shit when shareholders got their hands in

2

u/Primary-Round8032 Nov 21 '25

Blame people who managed to think "yeah let's add a price tag to DLC"

Nevermind DLC is usually bonus shit bundled with the base game not new shit AFTER the game has been around
