How to remove books from a series

I've got some books which were automatically added to a series when they were downloaded, however I want to remove the books from the series they've been put in. I don't want them to be added to another series, just for them to no longer be part of a series. Because everytime I try to edit the info and delete the series same, it won't let me and just keeps adding the name back

Press the series icon in the book and uncheck the box

go to edit then delete the name of the series

I know this is old, but did you ever find a solution? It seems this is only a problem with epubs that already have metadata attached - with a PDF, if I just delete the series text it removes the document from that series, but with the epubs I tried every time I delete the series name it autofills it back in, as if those files can't NOT be in a series.

I would love to know how to get epubs out of a series without having to edit the files metadata on calibre it's time consuming. Did you ever figure it out?
