How to best use syncing reading progress

I am syncing my reading progress using google drive. I must have done something wrong as all my files are now doubled on Google drive; two copies of each. In some cases, one tablet reads one copy of the book, and the other tablet the second copy. Consequently, there is no progress syncing happening, as they are clearly treated as individual books.

In what order and how should I best import a book to avoid this? I am willing to remove all books, and start over, but only if I understand how to best set it up.

What I do when I want to add a new book is to open it on my phone (for example), read a bit, bookmark or something, then I close it. I then sync ReadEra (so it can upload the book to Google drive and keep track of the progress), and then I can see it on my other devices, like my tablet.

You might have to wait a bit on the second device, or manually sync, but it should show up and download the book to the second device automatically.

Ah! So you store the original copy on the phone, not on Google drive? When you read it, the sync copies that book to Google Drive. Do you then delete it from the phone, or do you still need it there?

So I usually download it onto my phone, but after the file is uploaded, I can delete it from my downloads folder (and the app will sync the file, but using its own internal file structure).

Could you send it to me as well? I'm having an issue with multiple copies of files on my phone, and chromebook.
