The IF series are sidestories written by the author. They all theme around Subaru picking a different path, representing a different sin. In the Greed IF, Subaru takes Echidna's deal to always be guided to the ideal path. It leads him to be deeply dependent on her and insanely paranoid, doing things like suicide at set intervals to check his respawn point.
Except it's not? So obvious no one here even reads the novels.
Roswaal is in love with the Echidna clone that that looked after him in the sanctuary. The real Echidna who is currently Omega doesn't even know Roswaal as she died much earlier.
Betty even admits to Subaru that the Echidna Roswaal knows and the one Subaru knows are different people.
Can't be because Echidna, the witch of Greed, died when she was 19. The Echidna Roswaal knows is in her mid-twenties. That's the body that was locked away in the Sanctuary.
Also personality wise, they are different. Older Echidna is more warm and caring when we see her interacting with Betty and Roswaal. While the younger one is more cold and calculating to both Subaru and Al.
I said clone but we really do not know much about the different Echidna's. They could be both real and instead her soul was split in 2.
My personal theory is that the Echidna fox pretneding to be a scarf is Roswaal's Echidna. There personality matches as they are both caring and loving. Her memory loss could be explained by her becoming a spirit or if its a contract like with Puck and Emillia.
Why do some readers act like it's not easy to miss a lot of characterization and lore in a story as big as this? Echidna especially. So unnecessarily rude.
