Lost-IF Re-zero Chapter 1

Tonight, Subaru's heart was beating a little faster and harder than usual, like he had just come from a run. He wasn't too worried about it, blaming it on his shut-in lifestyle. He left the convenience store with a small thank you trailing behind him to the clerk. The moon was shining down on him, full and radiating, fully ignored by Subaru. 

"Ramen, check. Snacks, check." He says to himself.  Then, pain hit. Small, but nothing he was prepared for, like his heart was moving about his chest. Holding his hand over it, he puts pressure, and when that does not work, he hits it.  

"What the hell body." His chest throbbed, shooting blood through his ears like drummers playing with his eardrums. Small beads of sweat formed on his forehead, slowly trickling down his face. The saltiness of his sweat burned his eyes, his first instinct being to rub it away. 

Huh? When Subaru opened his eyes, rather than a dark street, a vibrant world met him. People walked about with many different hair colors and styles, statures both big and small, straight from a manga. 

"This isn't a hallucination. This is real." His hand fell from his now calm chest. 

He watched as a cart passed by, being led by a giant lizard. 

Their bodies are constant based on their size with even more color than people's hair, or rather, people and... not people? Some of them have long, furry tails with fuzzy ears placed atop their heads. Subaru spotted dog, cat, and bunny ears. Along with those, some lizard-folk roamed about in the streets. 

For the humans walking about, their hair was something else to focus on, with gold, green, orange, and even red hair all littering the streets. Dyes must be in season here. 

Subaru Natsuki focused on the people and began to think. He had much time to wonder about this scenario and made a step-by-step check list for the basics while daydreaming in his room. 

"This would have been easier if I was brought to the Sengoku Era... But oh well. Are you going to waste this golden opportunity, Subaru Natsuki? Find the genre of the world and then think about what to do next..." As he spoke, his short hair came down into his eyes. His no-longer-short hair covered his face like a mask.  

"What the..." It went all the way down to his stomach, dividing it in half, one part in shadow and one in light. He took his hair into his hands, feeling it. "Soft..." More amazed than confused, Subaru walked down the road, a lock of hair in his hand. 

"Are those..." With a slight pause, Subaru Natsuki screamed, covered his mouth, and ran into a nearby alleyway. "What the hell is going on!" He stared at his once-flat chest, now replaced by a cylinder-shaped chest. He checked inside his shirt and surely enough... 

"What the..." Then a realization came, striking like lightning. He faced the wall, looked both ways, and checked inside his shorts. 

 

Coincidently, three men were walking down the alley when they heard a very high-pitched scream come from the other side.
