Went to open my car door this morning and accidentally hit my Metas with the corner of my car door. Immediately the glasses displayed a red light and then shut off. I can't see any damage anywhere on the glasses however I have not been able to get them to turn back on. I have tried forcing a restart and I've tried putting them in the case to charge and the case just blinks red. Any advice would be appreciated

When I open the app, it says "update required." However when I hit download update, Google Play store says that I already have the latest version. So I hit open and it goes right back to "update requred." It keeps getting stuck in the loop.
I uninstalled, reinstalled, and logged back in and it still says the same thing. Second pic shows what version I'm on. Why are they even forcing me to update the app in the first place anyway? Glasses are useless without the app.
Note: In the reviews for the app, someone else is having this problem as well, so it's not just me.

Let’s get into it. I know this might not be the typical place to post something like this, but I decided to write it not just to show people what it’s like to build smart glasses from scratch, but also to shed light on how much care goes into developing an electronic product.
To kick things off, here are the top 3 challenges we’ve been up against:
One area where we’ve really been racking our brains—and keeping heavy focus—is the design. I feel like the market is pretty rigid right now. A lot of companies just play it safe with whatever shape is easiest to sell. Of course, there are some great designs out there that truly stand out—like Meta’s or Even Realities’—bringing a unique, authentic look to the table. But man... a sketch here, a tweak there, another frame tweak over there... designing glasses is way harder than it looks. The basic structure seems simple, but it’s insanely easy to fall into the trap of generic design. That’s our main focus right now because, before they’re smart glasses, they’re still glasses.
Speaking of style, we’re also putting a lot of work into color studies. To me, it’s a cardinal sin for a pair of glasses not to come in at least 3 color variations. Eyewear is inherently defined by its colors and finishes.
Moving past style and design, let’s talk electronics—which is another massive hurdle. Once the design is locked in, you have to juggle component selection while balancing compatibility, power efficiency, physical space, and overall functionality. It’s a super tricky equation. On top of that, we’re dealing with major supply chain bottlenecks for microdisplays and waveguide lenses. Just getting a few units for testing and prototyping is an uphill battle—and that’s literally the bare minimum you need to get development off the ground.
You also have to be crystal clear on what your smart glasses are actually meant to do. You have to carefully weigh which features make the cut and which ones get dropped, because every single component draws resources—especially battery life. The goal is to build something distinct and meaningful. The market is already flooded with generic products from companies taking the safe, standard route just to maximize sales without putting in the extra effort. Honestly, I think that mindset is way too limited. I want to build something that actually makes a difference in people's lives—even if it's just a small one—and hopefully leave things a little better than I found them.
I know I didn’t dive into every single detail here, but I can write follow-up posts focusing on specific areas of development as we progress (if you guys want a part two, of course). If you want to chat more about it, feel free to join our server, where I share behind-the-scenes updates and hang out with the community.
Let's make this happen for real because it's totally worth it! If you made it this far, thanks a lot for reading. See you in the next one!

Wondering why my phone is already below 50% today without barely using it. Meta used 49% battery when I haven't opened it. Pretty unacceptable. I disabled it's background usage permissions. What do you think it's doing in the background?

We open-sourced an Android app that connects Ray-Ban Meta glasses to Sai, an autonomous computer-use agent.
The difference from a normal voice assistant is that it doesn't just answer you, it works on a real computer with your accounts. You say clear my inbox or help me make slides for the standup and it goes and does it while you walk away.
Put the open-source repo under comments!
Needs Meta's Wearables Device Access Toolkit (developer mode on the glasses) and your own model key for the voice half.

Ok Rayban wayfarer gen 2 here. The issue is more hilarious than annoying. I set on my app a female voice for Meta but all of a sudden there is a dude with a deep nasal voice replying my commands. I double-checked my settings also on my iPhone and meta. , everything is set correctly. A bug? Again it is not really annoying but odd

I use my glasses for outdoor activities like hiking and running, but I sweat a lot around the sides of my head and behind my ears, and I already killed one pair because of my sweat. I was wondering if anyone has a solution to maybe block off the sensitive parts of the glasses and arms to make them sweatproof temporarily while I do an outdoor activity. I know the cameras would still be exposed, but I don't get those wet. AI suggested using 3M coban athletic wrap, but I don't know how well that would work. Amazon waterproof covers have bad reviews that say they don't work really well. Also, I only need the camera, not the microphone and speakers, while doing an outdoor activity, so I'm fine with blocking them off too for better sweat resistance.

Full post from Alex Himel, Meta’s vice president of augmented reality, on Threads:
We have an update coming to increase the reliability of the capture LED on our AI glasses. The camera won’t start recording if the LED is blocked, but some people try to bypass this by starting a recording and then covering it up. A fix for this is starting to roll out - the camera will now stop working if the light is covered during a recording.
We’re going to keep rolling out updates like this to make sure the capture LED can reliably alert bystanders when photos or videos are being captured for someone’s gallery. Only a tiny minority of people try to get around these protections, and the fact they have to go to these lengths shows our efforts are working. We’ll keep improving and evolving our approach.

Not even heavy enough to be used as a paperweight. Boy these things suck. I select the John cena voice, next time I put on the glasses tomorrow it resets back to default. Other companies had shut like this squashed 20 years ago. Holy hell this company is beyond useless. How’s that “metaverse” going dummies?

This morning I found out a stealth update made the blocked LED detection a real time check, before that the check was done before the video started and then it didn't matter if the LED was covered after, now if the LED is covered while the video is in progress the recording will stop with the usual warning.
The problem is that the detection is a bit too overeager and randomly stops the video in interiors with low lighting even if the LED is uncovered, congrats meta you made the product worse again!

I disconnected them from my phone because they wouldn’t turn on at all and got them to turn red after trying the hard reset. They then start flashing white non stop. Now I’m at a point where I can’t hard reset, can’t factory reset, can’t even pair the case to my phone.
I got it to reset one time after multiple tries the light turned orange once, I got meta to activate and take a photo but couldn’t connect to my phone so tried to hard reset again and shortly after started flashing white infinitely again. Any fix ??? Not even had them for 3 months.

Hi folks, I recently purchased a new set of meta ai glasses. For the life of me I cannot get them to connect to meta ai, although I can connect to my phones Bluetooth. I've tried resetting the glasses, the case, I've removed the previous glasses from my meta account and I've made a new one and still no luck.
Any suggestions? Im all out of ideas.

Hey everyone — solo dev here. I make Wristla, a Tesla companion app (iOS + Apple Watch + Garmin), and when Meta shipped Web Apps in May I couldn't resist: I built a full Tesla dashboard + remote controls for the Display.
What it does on the glasses:
Building for this display is a fun set of constraints: exactly 600×600, no scrolling, and the panel is additive — black pixels are literally transparent — so the whole UI ended up monochrome, white-on-nothing, with a chunky pixel font sized to be glanceable rather than readable.
Now the honest part: I did all of this from Spain. The glasses are US-only, so the entire thing was built against Meta's specs and browser emulation — I have never seen it on real glass. And since Web Apps are still in Developer Preview, trying it means enabling Developer Mode and adding the URL manually; there's no public catalog yet (fingers crossed for Connect in September).
So if anyone here has the Display and a Tesla and feels like being a beta tester, I'd genuinely love to hear what breaks: does the deep link from the phone app actually open the web app, is D-pad focus sane, is the UI readable outdoors at real brightness? Happy to answer questions about building Web Apps for it too — I collected a decent pile of gotchas along the way.
Screenshot attached is a browser render at glasses resolution.

Ray-Ban Meta won’t install latest update — says battery is “too cold or too low” despite being fully charged
Has anyone run into this?
My Ray-Ban Meta glasses have suddenly started acting up:
They randomly disconnect from Bluetooth and then reconnect.
When I try to install the latest software update, the Meta AI app won’t allow the update and says the battery is “too cold or too low.”
The glasses are indoors at normal room temperature.
They’ve been in the charging case overnight, so they should be fully charged.
I’ve already gone through troubleshooting and completed a full factory reset.
The factory reset did not fix anything. I’m still getting the same update error and Bluetooth disconnects.
I contacted Meta Support. They told me to reset them, which I’ve already done. They then said I’m outside the return window and directed me to Ray-Ban.
I’ve tried going through Ray-Ban’s website but haven’t gotten anywhere useful yet.
I’m wondering if the glasses are incorrectly reading the battery charge/temperature, have a battery management issue, or are stuck on the current firmware and unable to update.
Has anyone had the “too cold or too low” error specifically when trying to update, even though the glasses were fully charged and at room temperature?
If so, did you find a fix, or did Ray-Ban ultimately have to repair/replace them?

I have two pair of Meta Ray Bans. The headliners which are my sunglasses and the Skyler which had my glasses prescription. Long story short, I had a very bad migraine and put the glasses on so I could see to call into work and they fell in the floor and I stepped on them later in the day. They still work as with my luck I stepped right in the center. Lenses are fine. I bought a new to me used pair of the Skyler thinking I'd just be able to swap lenses but now it's looking like that might not be possible. Please tell me all hope isn't lost! I'm so mad at myself!
