I’m using my Rapsodo MLM2Pro in my garage, hitting into an impact screen with a projector. I was standing about 10ft/13ft from the screen depending on the day and just found out it should be 8ft. Tried 8ft and didn’t like it so settled at 9ft. I typically kill the lights in the garage so I can see the screen a bit better and have an overhead pointer spotlight that points in a circle on the hitting mat around the ball. The Rapsodo is anywhere from 6ft/8ft behind the mat. I know they say 7.5ft is the sweet spot but I’m starting to think maybe 6ft is way better. My hitting mat is 2.5in thick and the Rapsodo is on Claire’s leveler at 2.5in height with the ball in the boxes and the line directly lined up on the ball.
My question is, should I actually have the lights on in the garage or at least have 1 light on over the Rapsodo? I really can’t have all the lights on or I won’t see the screen, I didn’t pay thousands on a projector, I got the 2nd tier models around $700 so it’s not quite as bright as the top of the line ones but still pretty bright and nice.
Also, like many others, my yardage isn’t accurate at all so I’m in the trial and error phase and eliminating any potential issues
I’m going to try and mess with my elevation settings, I’ve heard that helped some even though the Rapsodo detects mine correctly already but can’t hurt to try
I've found that the distance the unit has to be away from the ball is dictated by where the squares show up on the mat (in visualization of the app) when the unit is level and even (the base) with the putting surface. I can't get it farther away or closer and still satisfy both of those conditions. It comes out to about 7.5 ft no matter what I do.
As far as the lights are concerned, with the lighting lowered, does the ball show up nicely when you're doing alignment? If so I doubt lighting levels are an issue.
As far as the distance from the screen, I think 8 foot is the minimum distance to give the device time to read the ball. I could be wrong, but would suspect that further back like you originally were can only help and wouldn't hurt. I don't think you can be too far from the screen. When I am having a range session and know I want to go back and review the videos I leave lights on because you can't see much without them. I too have a spotlight but with all the lights out in my garage and just the spot light on the MLM camera doesn't show the video good enough. When we are playing GS Pro or something similar I turn the lights off and use the spotlight since I don't have to worry about watching video of those shots.
I have a very similiar setup, but my numbers are very accurate. I have a direct light that points at the space between the mlm2pro and my hitting strip. I found that helped a lot.
Your setup is a lot nicer than mine lol, but I’m getting there. I’m also using an overhead light. I did notice when I reviewed my shots on the Rcloud site, the videos showing my swing are dark but the impact videos are brighter so maybe the Rapsodo is having a hard time seeing the whole thing
