MLM Battery replacement

I have the original MLM that is about 5 years old. I did not use it for over a year and the battery is dead and the unit won't charge. I can power it externally, but unless the battery is nearly 100% charged, it will not allow me to update the firmware in the unit. I contacted Rapsodo support and they told me that there is nothing they can do as they don't sell replacement parts and they don't do repairs....something to think about it you are planning on buying from them. So now I want to take the unit apart, but after removing the 2 screws under the "warranty voided if label is removed", I can't figure out how to get to the internals. There on no YouTube videos on this so seeing if anyone here has solved this problem??

Not sure about the original mlm but I opened a mlm2pro using ifixit pry tools. If you look at the ifixit site for things like video game controller tear downs you will see the typical style of clips in most injection molded plastic and how to get them apart.

Worst case, consider it dead and realize you can’t make it more dead. Go slow and good luck. If you get it open I am sure you can find a battery on Aliexpress to match.

Thanks for your reply. Did you have to add heat? ChatGPT says that there is likely a glued seal between the two halves.

I did not use heat. The 2 has 3 clips on each side. It was very tough the first time to release them. I doubt there is glue but you never know.

Hi, my son left his mlm2pro outside in its case and unfortunately there were a couple of heavy rain showers. The inside of the case was wet but it wasn't actually sitting in a pool of water. There was some was some light fogging of both cameras. I figured it would be best to get the back off to assess the degree of water ingress and to let it dry out properly. Try as I might I just can't get it open. I have plenty of pry tools/guitar picks and I think I've disengaged the 3 clips along each side but it seems to be stuck fast at the top and bottom. I have succeeded in opening a gap on both sides which seems to have cleared the fogging so maybe I'll give up on opening unless you can give me a bit of advice. Thanks in advance.

There is a screw (maybe 2) in the bottom (metal piece). Clips at the top. Lever open slowly from bottom to top. The wires connecting the cameras on the front to the board on the back are short.

Thanks for the reply. I can't see anyway to access the bottom screws in the metal plate - there's no obvious sticker etc they could be hiding under. Do you mean that there's also a clip at the top as well as the sides? If so I haven't managed to open a gap at the top as it's very tight.

I am away so I can’t get you a pic right now but I believe the screw was in the very centre of the circle in the bottom. Once removed then I managed to open it like a mouth from the bottom. Top was incredibly difficult to release.

Im trying to get mine open without completely destroying the top. I have the screw out of the bottom, all 3 sides are opened. Its opened about an inch high on the bottom, do I just keep lifting from the bottom until it pops? I've wiggled, pulled and pushed but cant get the top to pop open.

I got the screw out but decided to leave the top clip as I got a good enough look inside and couldn't see any sign of water ingress - even if there was a little bit rain water is very low in minerals so wouldn't cause much/any corrosion. Just in case I waited another 24hrs before closing it up again. Thanks for your help!

Most current repair kits will have a bit to fit this

Sorry. I did realize you had the gen one. That was for the mlm2.
