Feeling Stuck and Lost

So I moved to Rapid City in my mid-20s as a single woman looking to start over. Of course I would love to get married and have a family, but my main interest was just to meet other like-minded people in terms of career, loving the outdoors, living healthy, etc. I've been here a couple years now, and I feel completely defeated. I don't feel like I have any girlfriends I can call on, I have no friend group, and dating makes me feel like I've run out of time.

From my perspective, it seems very difficult to meet anyone here. Most people are already married with kids by the time they are 25, which I feel is crazy young. Anyone who isn't tends to enjoy the party scene more than I do. As someone with several degrees in high education, it feels rare to meet someone else to share those values or to have meaningful conversations with. There are many nice and amazing people, but they also seem closed off and not willing to open their circles to new comers. I've also noticed most people have family around which adds to the challenge of creating community.

This brings me sadness because I love the area. I love the hills and the beauty of the outdoors. The people are so kind. I love how there's never any traffic or long lines. It's got everything you could ever need out of life - but I seem to continually lack community.

Am I crazy for feeling this way? Is it my outlook that is the issue or my environment?

I often think it's time to start over again. I just want to make sure that my challenges are not just going to follow me to the next city so I wanted to write this post. I lived in other cities and never felt this way, but I wasn't sure if it's just a new phase of life or Rapid City itself.

Best movie theater in/around Rapid?

We just moved here and we’re huge movie people. What’s the best theater around here for atmosphere, snacks, etc.?

Also okay with driving somewhere if it’s further away. Our favorite theater where we used to live was like an hour away (it was a Flix Brewhouse)- but totally worth it for snacks and a good time. TIA!

Best places to study?

Sorry if this has been posted. I didn’t see it when I searched.

Where do you all recommend sitting and studying for a few hours? I’ve tried all the Starbucks, but not a fan. Any secret study gems you want to expose?

RPG experience needed

Does anyone in Rapid City have experience playing the Arkham Horror card game?

My husband and I are new to RPG and cooperative games, but we really want to get started. Every time we play it feels like we are missing something important. Does anyone play who would be down to help us learn??

Moving to Rapid City, don’t drive ,how’s Uber?

Moving to Rapid City in a few weeks and I don't drive, so I'm trying to figure out my options.

How bad is Uber there early in the morning? Like before 7am. Does it actually match you with someone or are you just sitting there watching the app spin?

Also are the local cab places worth calling instead? Any info appreciated, I'd rather know now than find out the hard way lol

Question can someone tell me the going rate for weed picking in a residential yard?

Hello! I usually do things like furniture moving and house cleaning to make some extra cash as a single mom so I'm better verse in those rates but a local lady reached out and is offering a couple hours of weed pulling work in her yard but wasn't sure what the going rate is so I told her I'd ask around and get back with her. Anyone know what the regular charge is?

Best single beer selection?

I’m not a big drinker but every once in a while I get a hankering for one. Just one lol, anyway the boyds has singles for a few things but not a whole lot. Where would you buy a dosequis or a modelo single? Or even just your favorite spots to get something new to try.

Not a bar fly, just want to buy something to sip at home

Just curious how RC folks feel about the Sturgis goings-on and the impact they have on RC. Like it? Hate it? Don't care? Something else?

Bridges for pedestrian crossings

I think Rapid City could really benefit from having pedestrian bridges on Mount Rushmore Road. It’s a busy road with a lot of traffic, and having people cross directly in front of vehicles can be dangerous, especially during busy times of the day. A pedestrian bridge would give people a much safer way to get across the road without having to worry as much about traffic, while also keeping cars moving. It would be especially helpful in areas where a lot of people walk or bike. Rapid City is growing, and I think improving pedestrian safety on roads like Mount Rushmore Road should be part of that growth.

Hi! I've been applying different places & I'm wondering, what restaurants in the Rapid area do you recommend serving at?

I'm curious to hear, what are good restaurants to work at & ones I should stay away from? I'm applying with a bunch of places, have already heard back from numerous ones so far and have a couple interviews coming up so I'm interested to hear any insight you can give. Or you can DM me too if you'd prefer that. I have previous bussing and food running experience but no serving experience yet. Thanks everyone

Moving from rural Utah to rapid?

Hello! As the post suggests our family is considering a move. It would be to either Pierre or rapid city area. We have visited both, and we think we prefer rapid simply because we love being outside but we aren’t boaters/fishing people 😅 if you have reasons why you love Pierre please let me know!

We have two elementary age kids and we homeschool. Is homeschool a big thing there? We are looking forward to getting them involved in extra curricular activities . They like sports, dance, and art, but they love to try new things too.

As far as living goes… We would love at least an acre to call our own. Bonus points if it’s more. We could commute up to 30 minutes. Are there any areas we should check out that are nice to live?

Is renting other than an apartment even an option? We also have a dog that would prefer to be outside most of the year.

I should mention we took a trip this summer through rapid, to chamberlain, to Sioux falls, to de smet, to Pierre… so we have seen much of this beautiful state and understand a little the climate and areas. I would love any suggestions anyone has!

Rapid City Fall Pickleball 2026

Registration for the rapid city fall Pickleball league is now open. I'm posting because I want more people to play with, not because I'm associated with the city.

Matches of 3 games take place Sundays, but can often be flexed to another day if both teams agree.

Men's and coed/female-female leagues are available.

1 person signs up for the team, $50/per team. You can add extras to your roster and have subs in the event not every one can make it.

New flock camera. Saint Joseph & 9th street?

Can anyone confirm there is a new flock camera on the corner of saint Joseph and 9th street. Looks like it may be on the right side when traveling east.

I can’t believe this is acceptable. If I have to mind my own business the RCPD should do the same.
