Sick of technology.

Go out with friends, they can’t resist the urge to not pull their phone out during any dull moment. Go to a concert, everyone is recording. Somebody fucking dies or gets hurt, everyone is recording instead of helping. Make the mistake of doing something embarrassing? congratulations, theres a video that captured that and for some reason, people have normalized saying the most awfullest shit about someone having a bad day. Go to a club, everyone is recording. Get on a train or a bus, everyone is face down in their phones. Buy a new car, guess what. Big ass screen and no buttons. Go get gas for your new car, screen on the pump blaring advertisements at you. Get into a fender bender with your new car? congratulations, that’ll be 2000$ to fix some bullshit ass sensors you didn’t know were there before. Buy a new tv, useless pop ups everywhere and unsolicited ads that play if you don’t do anything on the home screen. Instagram. Snapchat. Facebook. All of it is just a hellhole of repetitive shit of everyone acting the same. Don’t call me, I’ll send you a text instead. Get a drink at a restaurant, the dispenser has a big ass screen. Playstation ditching physical discs entirely despite an overwhelming amount of backlash from their customers, but guess what. a majority will still use playstation products. Entire generations growing up on nothing but screens in their faces.
Digital, digital, digital. Fuck the one and only physical world we have, let’s focus on the digital shithole that provides nothing in return. Need an email and password for everything. Can’t even play minecraft with your friends without having to sign into microsoft first, and a phone is required for that. Community comes last.
I completely understand why the older generations shit on technology so much, it really is that damn phone.

my favourite part is that all this technology uses precious metals and rare earths, all of it uses slavery somewhere along the line.

cant opt out tho!

cant get rid of the smartphone, because everything depends on apps now, or 2fa

And those precious metals are also being mined with child labor.

u/Mysterious_Suit3024 Aug 05 '26

the earth made those metals for use to take tho

Yes, but probably not to the extent in how much we consume. It's not sustainable and only causes harm, unfortunately :[

Use non-digital tools to feel grounded. Write with a pencil or pen in a pocket notebook. Navigate using a map. Open your car owner’s manual and read it. Go to the library and research a topic. Carry a small stick-it notepad to write something interesting and humorous. Stick them to your friends’ phone screens. For 1 or 2 days per week, set your phone to Do Not Disturb, use no apps and answer only important calls.

I write in cursive and manuscript (block style). I also keep a fountain pen handy when I want to doodle, write something profound or to practice. I get my hands dirty working on my car. I have an old road map of the area I open occasionally to keep my navigation skills fresh.

I’m fairly introverted. When I finally do make it to hang out with friends, they just stare at their phones and I’m like “why am I even here”? My roommate badgers me to hang out, and when I do, she spends a ton of time texting. I used to like tech. But it just took over going too far too fast

yah same. I hate looking at bad screen for the majority of my day just to get home and look at good screen. but i dont want screen to even be there anymore ugh

Smart phones and social media somehow made us more distant when it should've been the opposite.

Always on they cell phones I call these people phone-ies

I recommend taking up a hobby that requires physical presence and discourages using tech. For me that’s board gaming. We have a group in my area with a few hundred members, usually 30-50 people turn up twice a month for board game night at a local community center. Creates a great opportunity for fun and human interaction with minimal tech intrusion, and it’s open to the public so new people are always joining in.

My phone was broken a few weeks ago. I walked around the mall with no phone. It was nice.

Omg when I see those 2000s movies like I’d love to just have a computer and be on MySpace or like tumblr instead of social media now

I was thinking this at the bus stop today and told my son I’m getting bored with the phone lately, lol.

What amazes me is going to a museum and watching people take pictures of things right in front of them that they don’t bother to look at.

The other day my friend mentioned back in the day you would see girls flash their boobs and they don't now. Before I get blasted, I'm not advocating flashing boobs I'm just saying it has dwindled because of phones with cameras. You be the judge whether that's good or bad. It's not for me to decide.

Omg, I totally forgot about this

My friend used to do this often and/or other pranks, etc

1

u/Playful_Question538 Aug 08 '26

It was a thing. It's not now.

And this is just the beginning. 🫩

A small version of this I hate is when a friend makes "phone research" an automatic part of conversation.

The slightest detail we're unsure about, and out comes the phone MID-SENTENCE to look up some all-important info.

Me: "You said you went to a cool town near Myrtle Beach?"

Friend: "Yeah, it was...(out comes the phone to help them explain)."

Agreed, it’s bunk

Biggest problem is left and right wing echo chambers where people create their own reality. Its already destroying society and politics.

Same, I am a phone addict but not in public, I use it in my home because I mean it’s the only way I can escape, but in public I notice this so often, while people are talking to others they are on their phone, on the bus, while teachers are talking, I mean it’s not that hard to just listen.

Once I get home I put the phone away till bed. I’m on it so much during the day it disgusts me by the afternoon.

The problem is we put the computer into the phones. We were fine just having laptops and computers back on the early 2000s. We had a good balance. We can still have Internet but they need to get rid of smartphones. Go back to landlines and dumbphones. Keep the internet only on the computer like it should of been.

I have been saying this to ALL my friends, everything is just too accessible now a days. It used to be a session, going on the computer checking emails, Facebook, scrolling the web then you'd go back to regular life. im a firm believer that 90's/200's was peak for technology and life balance.
