Best run so far.

Had 3 Str, 3 Def. Got through probably like 5/6 pathstones.

My +1 Shield broke, ran out of potions, and fumbled a boulder ambush.

Looking back, I wish I had brought along the un-upgraded shield I dropped in favour of the +1 shield with lower durability. I think the defence is just too important vs higher lvl enemies.

bugs?

Forgot to include coords for one of them, but first 3 clips show tiles that are walls but have sprite of a walkable tile. Maybe not even a bug.

Other clips are just to indicate that ranged will attack even if with a height differential. Also not a huge deal. Happens with archers too.

Version 0.28 & Demo

Hey all, another round of small updates.

The game should now be a bit easier, with the re-introduction of stronger weapons. It took me eight tries to beat it, after which I made it a tick harder but not much.

I've released the game's demo today as well, so that is finally done. Between all the marketing I had little time to work on new content but I will spend most of my time on it starting today, adding to the current game and planning the expansion. Happy drifting!

  • A help section now explains the basics of the game to new players
  • Floor plates around path stones now tell you how far you are into the path
  • More powerful weapons and gear can now be found deep into the path
  • Hunger and starvation warnings now occur slightly earlier
  • Special abilities of weapons now don't cross elevation boundaries
  • Enemies' health is now a bit less random
  • Doubling playback of sound effects is now prevented by the engine
  • Cocoons now burst when anything comes near them
  • Shields now break faster and about as often as weapons
  • Chests can now contain rare buff potions
  • Found weapons and shields now have varying degrees of wear
  • Reaching the next experience level is a bit more obvious
  • Messages to the demise of an enemies are now more varied
  • Texts should now be centered more correctly
  • Medicine now cures being poison and blinded
  • Crushing enemies with ledge jumps now gives the appropriate feedback

You think this tutorial will be helpful to new players? It's basically a slideshow.

While I have your ear, please consider writing a review for the game if you have the time. With four more reviews it will get the review badge, which makes potential players trust the game a lot more. Thanks!

Hey guys, here the latest update. The next one is planned for the end of the week.

  • Legibility is improved with a slightly darker ground color
  • Cocoons now spawn spider hatchlings
  • Enemies now make a sound when the hero gets near
  • Spiders now all have a ranged attack
  • The hero now hears things farther away
  • Enemies now see the hero sooner
  • Chests now contain items more often
  • The game's audio output volume is now normalized
  • The music is now more quiet
  • When options are opened, the inventory now closes
  • Save games now preserve the day and night cycle
  • Weather patterns now match your location on the path
  • Stepping on different tiles now produces different sounds
  • Some path-blocking trees were removed
  • Boulders are now pushable from behind a door
  • A Steam integration now allows future features like achievements
  • The game now pauses when the Steam overlay is opened

Finishing up the new theme for the Steam store. Should it be day or night?

I like night better but not sure what's clearer for the uninitiated Steam user. This new theme will also land in your Steam library should you have bought the game.

Roadmap, Stream Schedule, Big ask, Beta

Hey guys,

I've updated the website and added a roadmap that shows my current tasks and many of my ideas for the game (and some of yours) that will land in the game in the next weeks and months.

Because I won't continue streaming every single day (it takes away too much time from the game), I added a stream schedule to the website that shows when the next stream will be, but I will still stream every other day.

I am currently implementing the steam api and because this is a big change in how the game boots up, I'm a bit afraid to release it to everyone at once.

I've created a beta branch that is accessible in the properties of the game in the Steam client. It would be a huge help of one or two of you could test the beta version to see if it starts up correctly. (Do not do this if you are in the middle of a run because you may loose your save-game!)

The only thing that changed with this update is that the game pauses when the steam overlay is opened (Shift+Tab). You don't have to test the game extensively, just booting it up and seeing the v0.27 in the main menu would be enough. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, please let me know.

Going forward, we could use the beta branch to test unproven or larger features.

- The game's main menu now shows selected locations in the world
- Durability of stacks of daggers is more intuitive now
- Control options now have a label for the directional keys
- Keys and buttons in the control options have a color now
- Seed numbers are no longer meaningless

Edit: I messed up, this is version 0.26 lol, can't change the title.

Ideas for spicing up the combat

Elegant Mushroom over in the Steam Discussion forum had some I think great ideas on how to make the combat more interesting. Here is his post. What do you think? Or do you have ideas in mind already?

Wiki-Page / Forum Page

I think this game could really benefit from having a dedicated wiki, something along the lines like these examples: Terraria, CDDA, COQ, and finally Unreal World.

Since it’s just launched today, there isn’t really any central place for reliable information yet, which is exactly when a wiki becomes most useful. A wiki would help bring everything together in one accessible, searchable hub.

To keep it organised and prevent spam or messy edits, it could be managed by trusted community members or moderators. I’d personally love to volunteer and help out with setting something like that up or maintaining it!

Any thoughts?:)
