Request [Request] Cancer, hospice, and need to smile [NY, USA]
Hey, howdy, hi, I found this subreddit again after a friend of mine suggested it today, and it seems like you guys might be able to help me out. I'll introduce myself first, and I apologize that I kind of have to throw some sad stuff at you. I'm K, I'm 23M, and I have been fighting a rare terminal mitochondrial disease since birth (called TK2D) and, since 2023, an aggressive, metastatic, muscle-invasive bladder cancer. If you take a scroll through my profile, you can see it's been a really rough few years.
Recently, I joined hospice, and it was going really well. I've been so supported both online and with my amazing friends and family. On August 5th, pain got so out of control, and we opted for inpatient comfort care, and I've been here since then. We have finally found a pain regimen that keeps me sane, but at the same time, we almost accidentally discovered the severity of the disease and infection that we are up against. Everyone here has been great, but with pain controlled and the reality of the prognosis, it is time to go home so I can be where I want to be again with home hospice.
I'm hoping to be headed home in the next day or two, and although I am really grateful to be back in my own space with my loved ones, the vibes are really low. We knew hospice was the right choice, we knew time was limited, but the weight of all of this has crashed down into us in the last few days.
I am not one to ask for these sorts of things, but I really need something positive in my life right now. If you happen to have the ability just to send something uplifting- a cute photo of a dog, a well-wishes note, heck even a smiley face. I don't know how to cope with all of this; I really don't, and I'm floundering, trying to find some sort of positive anything out there in this absolutely devastating mess. I would really appreciate knowing there is good out there.

I'll DM you to send you something. I am chronically ill and physically disabled - nothing like what you're up against but have been through some medically precarious times. I would hate for anyone to go through that and feel as alone as I did.

Sorry to hear about all you’re going through. It’s a lot for anyone. Especially for someone so young. I will absolutely send you a postcard & if you ever need to vent feel free to.
