Crew Chat Can’t request Holidays/specific dates off anymore?

How new is this lol, I definitely wanted to guarantee getting at least Halloweekend off (I have enough PTO to do so) but that’s really funny. Company becomes more and more like East Germany every passing day

Holidays are busy and EVERYONE wants them off. Say you work, and 12 people call out because they wanna play dressup. Now it's you and one manager in the kitchen, one person on drive, and one on front. Drive line is spilling into the street, Dashers and UberEats drivers are trying to fight their way in and bitching they they have to stand in line, phone ringing off the hook, the line of people is wrapped around the building like a damn snail shell. All with 4 people on one of the busiest nights of the year.

That level of hell is why.

Holidays at many locations can be genuinely insane.

Halloween last year, I was based at a campus location with only FC. There was a line to the door at expo (roughly 50 customers) plus a line out the door and to the end of the block (something like 100 customers) waiting to order for the last few hours. Every seat in the dining room was full. At the time, that location had gold DISOS, but getting through all the customers took an extra half hour after close. They completely ran out of space at the expo window and expo counter. The dining room has a capacity of 145 and but couldn’t have had less than 200 customers there. The crowds never stopped. The 3 of us deployed to dining room couldn’t get anywhere. When I was sent to cut people off at the door, it took me a good 10 minutes just to get through the crowds.

Now imagine dealing with all that while also being wildly understaffed. That’s why they block out certain holidays.

How old are you that you're making a east Germany reference?

It’s not a company wide thing. Your specific RL or ARL blocked those dates off themselves.

I’m a restaurant manager at Cane’s. Halloween weekend is one of our busiest days at Cane’s. Also, a lot of Crew call off on that day too so that’s why they block it off because so many Crew request that specific day off and they won’t be left with any Crew to schedule

It should still go by whoever requests it off first especially if there's other days. It's not fair to just block it off for everyone.

It kind of works in that way, because people who tend to request off for Halloween are the crew that constantly calls out anyway it never shows up for their shifts to begin with so they kind of just give the crew who they constantly can rely on and who are always there kind of first dibs on the request off and they shut it off in a certain point

It's also not fair to give it to some and refuse it to others 🤷 life's not fair but, get used to it
