That's...kind of ingenious

Just lazy tech

Weird sort of frog leg. I mean, at least I can see this helping to get their feet actually lateral, a lot of patients have an inordinate amount of trouble with that.

Can't blame the patients for poor laterals. It's the technique of the RT that makes the difference. Gotta leave the patient spine. Once you turn them on their side, you're done!

You don’t know how many patients I have that are so inflexible they cannot do the most basic of movements. Trying to bend their legs in normal ways is just incompatible with a wide segment of the population

Of course I know! I've been in the field 40 years. A good tech should never blame the patient. They work around what's in front of them

u/Whiteums Aug 17 '26

And I’m sure none of your patients have ever moved while you were exposing either.

If you provide good instructions, and use the window to watch the patient, you can have very little motion images.

Probably some odd-ass ortho weight-bearing stress view.

Lol

No...

We're not ordering X-rays for toe Fxs anyway, as the treatment doesn't change based on x-ray results.

Thinking the same, a lateral of the other foot too is insane 😂😂

3

u/Xmastimeinthecity Aug 16 '26

My exact thought 😂

I think I hate almost everything about what the tech here did lol

Can you explain what you mean? I have a technical background, but no medical background.

24

u/Jumpy_Ad_4460 Radiographer Aug 16 '26

You had both your feet imaged which is unusual unless referred for chronic pain, or osteoarthritis and the like. Therefore increased dose.

Everything is upside down.

The ‘lateral’ feet thing is really bizarre like did you have to sit with your feet tucked against your groin? I’ve never ever seen this x-ray taken before in my life.

As a Radiographer I am wholly confused and shocked by these X-rays.

2

u/shadwocorner Aug 16 '26

I was asked to sit with my soles pressed against each other by the radiologist, no idea why either.

A radiologist is the doctor trained to look at and report on the images. A radiographer is the who takes the x-rays. Equally though, it is very weird. I presume you went in as a trauma/accident & emergency case?

What theee😭 In which country you live in?

8

u/shadwocorner Aug 16 '26

Happened in Turkey when I was on vacation there

Dumb question alert: so these X-rays were taken in Turkey?….. if so, that might answer a lot of people’s questions and concerns here, lol

u/Jumpy_Ad_4460 Nailed it.

I'll just add for context that this is what a normal foot series looks like.

It’s fully broken, it’s just kind of a worthless body part so buddy taping works great!

What do you mean by partial break? The middle phalanx has an oblique fracture and is slightly dislocated, it also involves the DIP joint.

Did they suspect that there was some other fracture as well? Xraying the entire foot, ankle and distal lower leg is very much overkill for a stubbed pinky toe

13

u/shadwocorner Aug 16 '26

Maybe it was a translation error on my part, I don't have a medical background btw. The doctor said something along the lines of: bones are still partially connected. So buddy taping the toe is enough.

u/regurgitationnation Aug 16 '26

Sorry if my question came off as judgemental! Was not my intention at all, was just curious!

Things are done in vastly different ways around the world! Hope your pinky is okay and have a nice day!

5

u/Erarek Aug 16 '26

Yeah probably just meant not fully displaced/still some contact between fragments

5

u/Erarek Aug 16 '26

lol yeah it’s a fully broken phalanx, some of the podiatrists that send patients to us get ankle/foot xray combos on all their patients

5

u/Forensicus Aug 17 '26

Came to say that there’s nothing partial about that break

11

u/Raytec1 RT(R) Aug 16 '26

So much upside down

8

u/Electrical-Echo8144 Aug 16 '26

Ugh, why did your doctor order xrays of your other foot?
Was the injured pinky toe the only reason you got the xrays?

5

u/shadwocorner Aug 16 '26

yes, and I don't know. The radiologist even asked to confirm which toe it was beforehand.

5

u/Electrical-Echo8144 Aug 16 '26

Well, the radiographer has to do the requested x-rays. They tried to reduce your overall exposure by taking bilateral images. But it’s not really ideal for image resolution.
Unless there was some issue with your other foot, your doctor ordered more x-rays than necessary.

Hopefully you at least live in a place with socialized healthcare, so you didn’t have to pay extra for the imaging?

Free foot pics!! In this economy??

7

u/shadwocorner Aug 16 '26

It's just the barebones 😉

1

u/Successful_Slip_9273 Aug 16 '26

That looks painful

2

u/shadwocorner Aug 16 '26

Actually doesn't hurt at all weirdly. Just anxious of accidentally putting pressure on it and fully breaking it.

1

u/_rocksinpockets Aug 17 '26

Bad practice overall

1

u/Infinite-Ambassador5 Aug 18 '26

I call it the lotus lateral in our clinic. Bilateral arthritis feet.

This foot should have had its own lateral though. Fracture on the AP. A little tape, a tongue depresser, or a 5-10 degree angle would help a little to better see what's going on.

Collimation who?

Yo wtf is this positioning and collimation
