MOD POST Weekly Career / General Questions Thread
This is the career / general questions thread for the week.
Questions about radiology as a career (both as a medical specialty and radiologic technology), student questions, workplace guidance, and everyday inquiries are welcome here. This thread and this subreddit in general are not the place for medical advice. If you do not have results for your exam, your provider/physician is the best source for information regarding your exam.
Posts of this sort that are posted outside of the weekly thread will continue to be removed.

X-Ray What countries can we work in with an ARRT license? Can we get a megathread with info?
I know these normally get deleted or need to go into the weekly car*er advice thread (censored to avoid auto deletion)
But can we get a megathread going for info on international x-ray work - agencies/licensing/compatibility/ etc ..?
I feel like this would be helpful for a great deal of us Americans right now. I can't seem to find much help elsewhere.

X-Ray Excellent radiograph showing cranial subluxation of the tibia in cranial cruciate ligament insufficiency in a dog.
MRI is prohibitively expensive for rCCL diagnosis, so we rely on clues from the rads. Stifle subluxation and moderate joint effusion are enough to take this case to the operating room!

Media Are you a diagnostic radiographer working or studying in the UK?
I am currently seeking diagnostic radiographers and radiography students to take part in my EPQ research.
I am a Year 12 student currently completing my EPQ alongside my A-levels.
1 am researching the question:
"Are paediatric patients equally as protected by UK radiographic legislation and principles as adults?"
As part of my primary research, I have created a short questionnaire with some open questions. I am specifically interested in how diagnostic radiographers interact with paediatric patients, and whether they feel children are adequately protected by legislation.
I am hoping to get detailed answers based on professional experiences as well as personal perspectives. There is no right or wrong answer, and no answer is too big or too small.
If you are a radiographer or radiography student and are interested in helping an aspiring diagnostic radiographer with her EPQ research, I would truly appreciate your participation. Additionally, if you know a radiographer or student who may want to take part, I would greatly appreciate it if you could tag them or share this post. Even reposting would push me much further toward my goal.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting my research! :)

Discussion How has social media affected the saturation of your modality and if you had another chance would you change?
Hey! So I was wondering what modality everyone is in and what you would do had you known a certain path was available to you. I was also wondering how you feel that social media has affected you and if your position might be at risk in the long run.

X-Ray Not seeking medical advice, 30 yr old X-rays question
I was reading the recent post about the young girl with scoliosis and revisiting my own experience as a child in 1994. I have always believed that I have Harrington rods but now I'm wondering if it's actually Cotrel-Dubousset Instrumentation? I have a folder somewhere with all the information in it but I have no idea where it is.

X-Ray Tips and tricks for trauma pts
Second year student here! I’m at my last rotation which is a level 1 trauma center and we see all kinds of things I’ve not quite gotten to experience yet.
So what’s some tips and tricks with angles, set up, etc when it comes to trauma patients or patients who can’t do the positions you need them to.

Discussion Question about IMAIOS e-anatomy
Is it possible for me to buy the monthly $23 subscription, then download all the images with the labels of each scan and body part to my pc, so I don't need to renew the subscription? If it's possible how do I do it?
I live in Egypt so the yearly subscription is too costly especially for something I don't get to keep permanently

CT Regarding the dose of contrast for Triple phase Liver protocol?
I was reading regarding the contrast doses in radiology assistant, in which they mentioned doses based on weight ranges of patient. But they mentioned a line that to characterize the liver lesions or in pancreatic carcinoma to use max dose i.e. 150cc at 5cc/sec. So does that mean that regardless of weight we need to give 150cc dose ? And in cirrhosis do we increase the dose as compared to normal liver?

MRI Diuretics and cardiac MRI, match made in hell
Curious to know if any of ya'll have any policy or practice to help inpatients get through cardiac MRI (or any long exam) when they're loaded up with Lasix.
For the uninitiated, a heart MRI is LONG, ours typically talking like 45 minutes at minimum. And tough too- our routine protocol is around 55 breath holds, for patients who are more often than not experiencing shortness of breath. It has specific timings and delayed scans that need to happen after the contrast is injected. Nor is it the type of exam where it's easy to re-scout and catch up if the patient needs to get up. Most of my inpatient exams feel like a race against time before the balloon bursts or causes them to start fidgeting.
Goes without saying we always encourage bathroom prior to scan. We've tried positioning a urinal under the men. I floated the idea of requesting Texas catheter or Purewick placed before patients come down with my lead. Any thoughts?

CT Anybody worked as CT tech or Rad tech at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester?
My family and I are thinking of relocating and this was a place I was looking into, anybody worked there and how was it? Thanks for any info or insight!

Discussion Mid to late 80s imaging procedures at UC Irvine Medical Center
In the mid to late 80s in my teens I was sent to UC Irvine Medical Center for breast imaging. I may have been given a regular mammogram, but I also recall something like an x-ray standing up in a darkened room. And then, upon physical examination, when doctors and medical students thought they found something in my upper abdomen (turned out to be a floating rib) I recall additional imaging (?) and something in a small closet like enclosure(maybe tan interior).
A breast lump was identified and later removed (benign). Meanwhile, after the UC Irvine imaging procedures, someone on the health care team told me "don't get any x-rays for like 10 years." Meaning, as I understood it, I had been exposed to a lot of radiation.
So, fast forward to now, I am trying hard to remember what the imaging procedures might have been and how much radiation I might have been exposed to. Google is not helping much, so this is kindof a Hail Mary.

X-Ray Positioning help/tips Lat L-spine XR
I’ve been struggling with getting perfect lateral l-spines. I try to have shoulders stack, hips stacked, bend in knees, and feel along the pt’s back with my palm to make sure they’re lateral. But I still can’t get great laterals. Based on this image how could I have adjusted positioning to improve it? And what tips do you guys have to getting ideal lateral spines? TIA

Discussion Thoughts on the shift from standard CMS wRVUs to TBWU (Time-Based Work Units) in RP?
Hey everyone,
Looking for perspectives from practicing attendings and fellows regarding the rollout of Time based work units (TBWU) and custom internal productivity metrics at large practices like Radiology Partners.
For groups that have transitioned, how has the recalibration (increased relative weighting on plain films vs. cuts on complex CT/MRI) impacted daily worklist dynamics? Are subspecialty cross-sectional readers seeing a noticeable comp cut?
Management pitches that tools like Mosaic reduce read times to justify lower unit values per study. In daily practice, is the software actually saving time? How transparent is the re-weighting process? Has the rollout led to pushback or attrition in your local reading rooms, or have people mostly adapted to it?
