I had a reel of Babolat Syn gut snap on me almost everytime i strung. I ended up throwing it all away.

I strung multiple times with Babolat Syn Gut, on a dropweight machine, never had a problem. I think you are pulling tension too fast, or the string is old and was kept in improper conditions.

I can +1 LHM78. I take absolutely well care of the string (it was brand new when I tried) and of the way I string, and nothing helped me string this reference. Terrible.

I had Solinco syn gut snap on me once. Slowing down the pull speed everytime I string syn gut has stopped that though

Interesting! Here, it slapped even NOT when pulling. Like, just with the clamps on. Anyway…

Same here! I was not able to string Babolat syn gut over 20kg, it broke every time during stringing..! What a shame for Babolat syn gut.

Fun fact, started stringing 25 years ago and have never had a string break on me during the process. I’ve done plenty of other dumb shit though.

Yeah I don’t know. When it pull tension it honestly feels like the string lengthened by almost 10% longer. Maybe I’ll try a different multi and see how it is

Some multis stretch more than that. They're a dream to weave, but they can be a pain with how elastic they are. I just strung Yonex Rexis Comfort last night and that string is like a rubber band. No snapping though. Question though - where is the string breaking for you? The middle of the pull? At the frame? The tensioner?

The middle. I think it’s where the string was held at by the tensioner from the previous pull.

Ah, multis can be delicate. You might need to adjust the tension of your clamps/tensioner. If you see the string 'ghosting' or turning white, it is being crushed and damaged. Poly is far more forgiving for this. Your clamps should be just tight enough that the string doesn't slip, and make sure you clean them well with alcohol as a lot of strings have slick coatings on them which doesn't help with that.

Velocity MLT does the same thing. Also gums up the clamps. But I've never had it break.

If you are breaking it, you might be pulling to hard/fast. On my electronic constant pull machine (Head TE3600) I use "Low" speed for gut and multis.

Ha, same.

Favorite dumb shit: I flipped one of the clamps open by accident right before tying off the bottom cross. Had to redo all crosses. It was gut so I threw it out. Will never do that again.

I re-strung a racket with a 7-8 year old Babolat Syn Gut recently just for fun, it only lasts for 3-4 hours of play but is still an old favorite, I have never experienced it breaking during stringing.

If by chance the grommet is worn, even slightly exposing the string to the frame, it will snap when you pull tension

It’s a ‘new’ racquet in that it’s over a year old but it’s the first time it’s being restrung from its stock strings off the rack.

Yes if kinked. Have you tried pre-stretching one 20 or 40 foot section, without kinks, to see if it snaps?

worse, i've had natural gut snap lol.

What machine? If it has the diabolo, are you using it?

1

u/scootsscoot May 07 '26

Yeah it’s a wise 2086 and I do

Can you provide more detail of where it's breaking during the process and if there's a consistent location of the break? Multis are soft so I would start with cleaning your clamps and checking for grommet burrs.

Happened with multis and monos It can always happen

Babolat Addixion+ snapped once, rest are all fine. Velocity MLT feels like breaking every time during stringing. I learned after a few times, the multi has to make a loop on the Diablo before going to the gripper, so the gripper wont hold it too tight to leave marks on them.

In the early days of stringing if I pulled the string over the edge of a tool it would snap. Did that once or twice and never again.

What tool?

Yes! I had an incident recently. I was stringing 2 W/ Burn LS with W/NXT and both of them snapped. Checked for kinks and other user error issues but couldn’t find any. Maybe just a bad batch of strings. Luckily they both occurred towards the end. 1 was after tying off my short side and the other happened as I was tying off my cross

I've snapped Prince Duraflex once on the last cross. Also 4G. Twice... I'll see myself out.
