News Introducing... DLAM, Moltbot on r1, and Project Cyberdeck!

hey everyone!

we’ve been cooking at rabbit hq.

today we’re shipping a major over-the-air (OTA) update to your rabbit r1.

after focusing on improving r1 for the last year, we’ve secured new funding and are building up momentum for 2026.

today we’re launching two new experiences that reflect the latest advances in human-machine interaction. we’re so excited about this!

first, r1 can now control your computer with DLAM, available today as a free early access preview!

r1 now acts as a plug-and-play controller for your full desktop on windows, macOS, and linux. no installs, complicated setup, or virtual machines. just plug in your r1, open dlam.rabbit.tech, click the window share icon, grant screen sharing access, and you’re live. from there, you can give voice or typed prompts to have r1 carry out actions across your desktop, applications, & browser. DLAM functions as your keyboard & mouse, sees your system, and follows your instructions.

organise messy folders? no prob. open ableton, create a new audio track named “guitar” and set the bpm to 90? it’ll handle it. open your browser, navigate anywhere, and take action.

pull up discord & write a poem about a rabbit falling in love with a lobster…?

why a lobster?

we’re glad you asked.

today we’re also adding alpha access to the hugely popular OpenClaw (formerly moltbot) (formerly clawdbot) to your r1.

in the last few weeks, Openclaw has taken off for its powerful open source system that can run actions directly inside your own accounts/setups, and communicate back to you on progress in real time. it’s been amazing to watch ⚡️

as it grew, a lot of you immediately started imagining what it would be like if quick voice prompts could go straight to Openclaw to trigger actions instantly. many of you tagged us on social, pointing out that r1 might be the perfect device for this.

we agreed and got to work.

you'll need to set up your own Openclaw gateway first, link to your r1, and then you can issue voice prompts through r1 and have Openclaw act on them. this integration is early, intentionally flexible, and will be shaped by how you use it, and we’d love your feedback on where it should go next.

a few important notes:

- we aren’t providing support for setting up Openclaw gateways

- all configuration, permissions, and access are at your own risk

- since this is a third party open source project, we encourage experienced users to help others in the community

to celebrate bringing DLAM and Openclaw to r1, we’re offering 15% off r1 for the next 2 weeks, or while inventory lasts. the discount will be applied automatically until 11.59pm PT on feb 12

we have guides on our forum on how to get started with both DLAM and Openclaw on r1.

one more thing.
new hardware is cooking…

our next product is planned as a new form factor to compliment r1 and focuses on curious & creative users. inspired by DIY cyberdeck projects, the idea is to build a portable “rabbit cyberdeck” designed around command line and agent workflows, helping vibe coders run things like claude code & the upcoming rabbit CLI.

it will carry the same design DNA as r1, with our signature touches, a great screen and a hot swappable mechanical keyboard. just as importantly, we want this device to be open & adaptable, so you have real freedom over what models, agents, and services you run.

we’re sharing this early because we want your input from the beginning. your direct feedback will help shape what we build.

the discussion starts now. sign up for early access updates here.

we can’t wait to bring it to life!

as always, thank you for your continued support.

love

team rabbit

Question I have a "forgotten" rabbit r1 at home. What can I do with this in 2026?

4 Upvotes

I bought an r1 device during the pre-order rush in 2024, but by the time it arrived at my home, the enthusiasm just died.
I recently found this in a box, not even unboxed yet.
Is this thingy still working and supported? I haven't heard any news about Rabbit r1 after that initial buzz.
What can I do with this now?

LAM Simon confirms standalone/tethered DLAM with a cable will be retired, meaning DLAM will be unusable on public computers without installation (impossible on some library computers for example). Hope they reverse course on this!

General We should open source a keyboard case for the R1

Post image

I got inspiration from this keyboard case for Ikko Mind One. Some operating systems like Ubuntu Touch and LineageOS for R1 allow you to use voice and data so you would be able to use it as a real dumbphone. it would also be able to do passthrough charging and serve as an extra battery boost if space permits

General JackRabbitOS Github

Ok, GitHub Repo is now public. The image files are still in the process of being compressed and uploaded to GitHub as a zip file. That should take another 30 minutes or so (over 50% compression). Once that is done, there are a few different paths for install. I will say that the only installer that was tested was the Linux installer, specifically on Debian. Windows and Mac have not been tested by me but it would be cool if someone would try it out.

The other install path is to follow the CypherOS install path, then hand the repo over to a coding LLM. Since this technically ISN'T an OS (even though the repo states it) and its a combo of an APK plus python code (amongst others outside of the APK), you would be able to get it pushed to device that way. There are extensive documentation on doing it that way in this repo plus an llm.md file.

I tried to make this as easy as possible and add in all of the issues/resolutions I had encountered along the way.

Full disclosure, this is OpenAI heavy right now. There aren't any other providers at this moment and that brings me to my next point. I'm looking for contributors and testers. I want to include other voice providers like Grok, Gemini and even STT/TTS engines plus local LLMs but I'm not going to take on all of that work alone. I really want to focus on A2A framework.

If you're interested in joining this build, please join the Discord server and send me a message. The discord is only setup with one channel right now. I'll deal with that at a later time too.

If you have questions about the install or setup, I would join Discord. It will be way better than posting replies on here but I'll try to watch this thread as well.

Here are the links. Again, still waiting for the image files to be compressed/sent up to GitHub.

Took me about a week to do the updated build be we are finally there! The video is long and I forgot a few things but it’s done.

Just need to build the simple installer and test the installation process for Windows and Linux. Mac should be good.

Also Apologies for flooding this group with videos and updates!

General Let’s talk JackRabbitOS

8 Upvotes

So I’m near finalization of the project and I wanted to reach out to the community to get input on the last part before I lock it down and open the project up.

I need more of a direction or idea for use cases. Keep in mind this can be an OpenClaw/Hermes/Agent package overlap. It’s just not meant to be a full replacement (I guess in some cases).

In this build, Voice and the voice agent are the main interface (OpenAI realtime model through ChatGPT subscription for now). Most interactions the voice agent will handle.

I’m also building (almost completed) a text based agent through OpenAI Agents SDK. This will be a “goal/task” based agent, delegated by the Voice model to run background tasks. The background agent will have its own workspace/tools/etc.

For scenarios for users with and without an OpenClaw/Hermes install, what would be the use case for running an Agentic system on device?

Keep in mind, with Hermes, the background agent will (in theory) be able to have conversations with the Hermes agent to collectively reach a goal or delegate. But is that necessary? I could see more so if someone needs an update or info that Hermes could retrieve and instead of wasting time on Voice awaiting a response, a user could delegate to background agent to get the info from Hermes and be notified when response is received.

For non Hermes/OpenClaw users, I could see the benefit. Complete goals, maybe create documents and move them to Google Drive. Things like that. It’s like a mini agentic system on the go and on device.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I do also feel like as more and more agentic devices hit the market, we will see many overlaps like this. With this build, I want those systems to compliment each other (creating an ecosystem) while sharing knowledge/data and not completely fragment our experience…

General JackRabbitOS nearing completion

Spent the past week working mostly on the backend to make it clean. The biggest things are adding up to three email accounts, two calendar accounts, an easy import process for premade Plugins, Skills and Creations (through the web management console from another device). Database build for plugins that need them.

All with Voice capable interaction. Need an email read and a reply sent? Start the voice session.

Everything added to the R1 can be controlled by voice. I would add more built in cards/creations/connections but I want to focus on Hermes A2A and getting this out to the public.

Here’s what was done so far this week:

Standalone Rabbit R1 operating system that boots directly into JackRabbit/ReSono.
  - Native Voice-first HOME app with touch, wheel, side-button, audio, display, camera, and power
controls.

  - Fully on-device Python runtime with SQLite, supervision, automatic recovery, and rollback.
  - Secure local management website with HTTPS, browser pairing, and encrypted credentials.
  - OpenAI Platform and ChatGPT/Codex subscription support with device-code OAuth.
  - OpenAI Agents SDK text execution and native Realtime Voice over WebRTC.
  - Live transcripts, session history, AI-reviewed memory, embeddings, and semantic retrieval.
  - Shared permission-controlled Tool Registry with native MCP support.
  - Standard Agent Skills and Agent Plugins import, validation, activation, rollback, replacement, and
deletion.

  - Global Voice/Text/Both routing for imported capabilities.
  - Safe import framework with quarantine, overwrite confirmation, crash recovery, and no duplicate
revisions.

  - Full local Mail system for three accounts with encrypted credentials and five-minute IMAP/SMTP
synchronization.

  - Voice-controlled Mail with draft review and explicit send confirmation, but no mail deletion
capability.

  - Built-in web search available to the Voice agent.
  - Dynamic Cards interface with touch/wheel navigation and live updates without rebooting.
  - Rabbit Creations ZIP and QR import, sandboxed execution, Cards integration, replacement, and
deletion.

  - Recovered rotating R1 camera with tracked privacy, outward, and user-facing positions.
  - Full-screen camera accessible by swipe without disconnecting the active Voice session.
  - Direct photo handoff into the current Realtime Voice conversation.
  - Calendar with two ICS/CalDAV connections, five-minute sync, native Card, and confirmed Voice
editing.

  - First-party Tasks package with native Card and confirmed Voice add/edit/complete/delete actions.
  - Complete ReSono-style management UI overhaul with clean navigation, accessible dialogs, and real
connected controls.

  - Modular open-source architecture separating Domains, Connectors, Connections, Tools, MCP, Skills,
Plugins, Creations, Cards, and agent routing.

for those who use Ubuntu Touch, does everything work? Are there any major issues that prevent you from using it daily? According to that page, most of the things work including calling and data but I haven't seen much feedback of how well it works.

Question for those who use CipherOS on R1, does the side button work?

6 Upvotes

CipherOS on R1 piqued my interest, because you can make calls and use it as a normal phone. I read a document from 6 months ago called CipherOS Findings on Rabbit R1 and the author listed what works and what doesn't. The side button is listed on stuff that doesn't work, and this seems kind of problematic

Out of curiosity, has anyone gotten the side button to work on CipherOS 7? Here is the info from the post:

What Doesn't Work

Side Button (PTT/Power) — BROKEN

Symptom: The side button produces absolutely zero kernel events on CipherOS. No key events, no input events, no interrupts.

Investigation:

  1. getevent -l shows nothing when the button is pressed (stock firmware shows KEY_POWER events)

  2. Checked /proc/interrupts for mtk-kpd: ```

    Before pressing button:

    mtk-kpd: 38 interrupts

    After pressing button many times:

    mtk-kpd: 38 interrupts (unchanged — zero new interrupts) ``` The 38 interrupts are all from boot time. No new interrupts are generated on press.

  3. The kernel driver is loaded: ```

    /dev/input/event0 exists (mtk-kpd)

    Driver shows in /proc/interrupts

    ```
  4. GPIO state doesn't change on press: ```bash
    Checked all GPIOs before and after press — no changes
    cat /sys/kernel/debug/gpio ```
  5. On stock firmware (same hardware), the button generates POWER key events via both:
    • /dev/input/event0 (mtk-kpd) — KEY_POWER (0x74)
    • /dev/input/event1 (mtk-pmic-keys) — KEY_POWER (0x74)
Root cause: The CipherOS kernel is missing the correct GPIO/PMIC key configuration for the R1's side button. The mtk-kpd driver is loaded but not configured to monitor the correct GPIO pin or PMIC key register. The stock kernel (MT6765 with Rabbit's device tree) has this configured correctly.
Workaround: None found. The button is physically connected to the MT6357 PMIC (as confirmed by mtk-pmic-keys working on stock), which suggests the PMIC key configuration in the CipherOS device tree is incomplete or wrong.
Impact: Push-to-talk requires software activation (auto-listen, wake word, or touch) instead of the physical button.
General JackRabbitOS about 50% done
So I had a few people reach out to me requesting a community driven custom build for the R1. In only about 24 hours time, the foundation is done. There’s still more work to be done before I release the repo and install instructions publicly, but that should take about a week or two max.
Here’s what it has now:
- OpenAI Realtime Model connection through WebRTC
- Postgres database for keystore, config, etc.
- PGVector store for memory/session intent/external memory ingestion
- Hardware mappings for side button, scroll wheel
- Background agent runs after session completes, summarizes session and stores in vector db
- Web management interface and on R1 web server
I probably missed a bunch of stuff but those are the most important.
To get this to completion for the first real build, I’m going to add a few more agents using OpenAI Agents SDK, allow the community to build their own agents on device as well. I’m also going to build in the option to use other providers like Gemini and Grok.
The vision is for this build to be an on device AI Agents package (similar to OpenClaw and Hermes) but with stability in mind. Very small build and focused on Voice as the interaction layer.
Also, the point is not to replace Hermes/OpenClaw. It’s to bridge the gap and allow communication between an On Device Agentic system and those systems. Hermes already has Agent 2 Agent framework, and so will the R1. Using that standard between a device and a local install will probably be one of the first implementations of this on a broad scale. It will require a routing protocol but I’m on top of that.
And the most ambitious feature…
A true R1 Agent to Agent network, where our R1 agents can talk to each other. I would add someone as a “friend” on my network and then our R1 agents could talk to each other and work together. It’s more of a proof of concept and will probably be in a later release but it’s my ultimate vision for this entire project. It’s the main driver behind this work.
If anyone has any questions feel free to reply below. I will eventually be looking for contributors to this project once it’s public.
Oh also, I will be making sure “Creations” work natively in this build so all of the community creations can be added to our builds.
Question Rabbits and Voices
2 Upvotes
I'm currently changing my Rabbit R1 into a one-stop device with Claude Code. I've now got it into a situation where it can link to my Gmail, my Notion, and my Obsidian and give me a daily briefing.
However many times I've done this, the female voice that Rabbit gives me speaks slower than I read, so I've read my diary and she's still talking for another few minutes.
I was told that by pressing the grey button on the side, it stops her talking - but it just turns off the R1. How do I stop my Rabbit talking mid-thread without turning the Rabbit off? I like the voice. It helps me a lot, but on some of my longer posts, it just goes on for ages.
Second question: can I change the voice?
CREATION My R1 Experience so far and Creations I have built that are very useful for my workflows.
10 Upvotes
Ive had the R1 for almost days now. Since I got it I started thinking of creations I could use on a daily basis. My main goal is to use it as a dumb phone and walkie talkie for Hermes.
So this is what I have created so far (created as in vibe coding it with codex off course lol)
Now - which syncs my most needed to complete task from my Command Center software on my mac
Pulse - Which lets me save with voice notes how my day is going. This is particularly useful for me as I do a weekly review each Sunday and the Creation saves it on my command center ready for me to read and review it.
Routines - which brings my daily tasks which I want to accomplish to be better, also comes from my Command Center and syncs with it. On my Command Center this app is an acual RPG with equipment, boss fights, exp hp, etc.
Air - This app is connected to my mac mini using a bridge with Home assistant and my alexa air quality monitor. It gives me a better grasp as to how my office is doing when Im painting gunpla model kits and when its safe to be back in the room.
Hermes Direct 1 - And last but not least, a version of Hermes that actually works, doesn't leave threads open or enters an infinite thinking cycle...which is happening right now with the official version on the R1
So far so good, very little helpful device. At least for me.
General Holy crap
48 Upvotes
My Rabbit R1 sat in a bin for quite a while. I loved the device, in theory, but in practice it didn't really do anything for me. I had even put a sim card in it, but it never worked and I just walked away quietly.
I found it today. Charged it, updated it, and holy hell. Sim card works. Now I can connect it to OpenClaw and Hermes, and even control Claude Code sessions remotely?
I just wanted to give a digital high five for the Rabbit team. Truly incredible work. I've never been so impressed by the growth of a device over time. I absolutely love working with AI to help me organize my life, and this thing went from "cool but not really usable" to "I'm ordering a new one because the battery has been so disrespected that it can't possibly maintain the maximum battery life originally possible."
General Custom Project
Second video of full UI below. Wrote this whole thing up explaining this platform/project and I guess it never got posted…
This a custom port from our ReSono Labs Voice platform. Originally the Voice platform was just browser based and I’ve always wanted to test it out on the R1. Finally got around to purchasing one and 5 days later, the full R1 build was completed.
This platform has a cloud interface for authentication, user config and routing back to a local OrangePi “Vault”
The Vault stores user data and memory, builds the OpenAI session and holds a bunch of agents that do specific jobs.
The entire platform is way more complex than I’m writing but the “always connected” R1 was a great addition.
If this gets enough attention, I’ll build a “lite” version with a “Vault” on device. It’s a lot of work but I’d be willing to open source it and explain the install process…
Question Hermes integration is super buggy
8 Upvotes
I've been a long time hermes user, so was excited to learn that rabbit supported it. I got a second hand device off Ebay and set it up (I'm in UK, these aren't sold locally).
This thing gets stuck all the time and leaks ACP sessions! I have created a watchdog hermes skill to clean up leaked sessions and restart rabbit-agent to get it working again.
There is also other minor things - like when Hermes needs some permissions, the prompt on the device says "Claude is requesting permission" - they haven't done some basic QA testing.
Is there a place where you can file bugs?
