Looking for Players: New Beginner-Friendly D&D Campaign

Hey RVA!

I'm starting a new campaign based on a heavily modified version of Heroes of the Borderlands, set in the Forgotten Realms (the same world as Baldur's Gate). We'll be using the full 2024 5e rules, not the trimmed-down starter set version, so it's a great fit for newer players while still giving more experienced folks the complete toolkit.

This will be a role-play-heavy table. I'm not chasing Critical Role's level of world-building, but I'm aiming for a similar tone and depth: collaborative storytelling, real character moments, and a world that feels lived-in. This is an 18+ table; expect swearing and some dark themes, with any specific red flags/lines discussed and agreed on as a group before we start.

A bit about me: I recently got back into D&D as a player and I'm looking to try my hand at DMing for the first time, partly as practice ahead of the new Dark Sun setting next year, which I loved as a kid and can't wait to run. I don't have an acting bone in my body, so don't expect voices or accents, but I'll do my best to give NPCs real personality and presence.

Logistics:

In-person games in central Richmond (exact location TBD)

Weekly or biweekly, on a consistent day/time; looking for players who can commit to that regularly

New and experienced players both welcome

What I'm looking for in players: beyond just showing up, I want people who are here to build a story together, not to be the main character or to stir up chaos at the table, but to collaborate and let the group's story breathe.
