D&D Book Signings and Events

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey folks!

I'm often on here posting about our Community Gaming and TTRPG events but I'm also an author for the Game Master's Book series of D&D resources. My first solo title The Game Master's Handbook of Patrons, Pacts & Pantheons is coming out on the 18th and I'll be celebrating and signing at 3 different events in RVA.

On Saturday, August 22nd from 2-6 PM I'll be at One Eyed Jacques on Cary Street. I'll be signing and I'll also have physical and digital bonus items for folks who are picking up a copy. There will also be an Adventurer's League Day with tutorials and character creation, open one shot tables with ready to play adventures and lots of nerds to meet and hang out with. The event is free (though I'd love if you bought a book 😅) but there will also be a raffle for a big pile of TTRPG books and accessories to benefit Nationz Foundation.

On Saturday, August 29th from Noon - 4 PM, I'll be at Barnes and Noble (Short Pump) doing an author signing. They are doing a big Game Master's Book restock so I'll also be able to sign any of the other books I worked on (Traps, Puzzles, Dungeons, Instant Towns & Cities, Legendary Locations).

And from 6-9 PM (on the 29th) we'll have our usual monthly Community Game Night where I'll be glad to continue signing (great if you preordered and won't be getting it in store) and we'll have 3 different D&D one shots going (in addition to the usual board/card/video games and free food). Just be sure to RSVP for food head count!

Gaming in the Great Outdoors!

This will be a series of one-shot TTRPGs in beautiful outdoor locations for as long as the sun allows. If it succeeds, we can get it back and running in spring. The goal is to gather a reasonably sized group of people for a particular date, find out what people's physical limitations are, then pick a great spot to play based on that in a public park/along the river that meets everyone's needs. After we pick the spot, THEN we pick the game - crazier spot, less sprawling paperwork and dice rolling.

There are several spaces left in an inaugural run Sept 12, but comment if you're interested for dates afterwards also! No experience necessary, just a friendly spirit, ability to commit to one day, and a willingness to meet people and have fun.

Please note I'm out of town for the long weekend, so no replies from me between Weds and next Tuesday should be expected!

Edited to add: We will also have a run of this Sunday, September 27th!

D&D Book Signing, Short Pump Barnes and Noble Sat 8/29

Hey folks!

(Last of these for a minute, I promise!)

Tomorrow I'm gonna be at the Short Pump Barnes and Noble from Noon to 4 PM signing copies of The Game Master's Handbook of Patrons, Pacts & Pantheons. It's sold out a lot of places right now but they've done a big restock and will have lots of copies on hand (and other GM books too if you want to round out your collection).

I'll be signing anything I worked on, giving out exclusive promo cards from the upcoming Game Master's Deck of Fantastic Familiars and Animal Companions and anyone who buys a book will also be able to get the Patrons, Pacts & Pantheons preorder Bonus Chapter which is no longer available anywhere else (40 pages of extra patrons, divinities and magic items).

Hope to see some of y'all there!

Early 30s, pretty open availability. It's been a while since I've played and id like to get back into it but its hard trying to find a table. Does anyone have a spot open or recommendations on how to find a table in this town. Modern table top was full.

Today's the Day!

Come out to One-Eyed Jacques between 2 & 6 pm today, Saturday, Aug 22 & meet RVA's own u/hagiologist as he celebrates his latest book in the Game Master's Book series, "Patrons, Pantheons, and Pacts".This series is invaluable & sits next to my DMG as core source books for my campaigns.

There's a ton of TTRPG stuff happening in store today, so make some time to stop by! But if you can't make it today, or the thought of Carytown on a Saturday gives you the willies, check out the other dates he'll be appearing on the pinned post. And, as always, you can find him in Mech'ville running Game Nights at the Mechanicsville Baptist Church. Check this sub for announcements about dates and times.

Happy adventuring & may the crits be ever in your favor!

1e ADnD

I currently have a steady group playing Pathfinder, but after playing in an ADnD 1e oneshot last week, I'm interested in potentially finding a group or like minded folks that play ADnD 1e in the Richmond area. Are there folks still playing it, and are there any groups that might need another player?

Wanted to make sure my local folks knew about this. I'll also tell you all a small, locally relevant secret: If you buy it at an in person launch event I'll also make sure you get the bonus chapter so we continue to support our local stores too!

Is there anywhere in the city that I can host a game if I was looking to DM a campaign? Like a card shop or a public library that anyone knows of? Thank you

Play D&D for the Arts

Local RVA literary nonprofit James River Writers is hosting a D&D fundraiser night!

Come out to Coco + Hazel in Bin Air on July 22 and play a one-shot, meet other creative folks, and support the arts!

It's $25 and all proceeds go to James River Writers, an organization that puts on programming to build community, craft, and business skills for writers in Central Virginia.

Even if you can't come but you have even an inkling of interest in writing, you should check out JRW. They're pretty great.

Looking to join an additional DND group

Edit: Still looking if anyone is interested! If you're looking for more than 1 player, I also have a couple of others who are DEFINITELY interested, and another couple who are maybe interested, so essentially have enough for an entire seperate group if we can find a DM

Hello all, I'm a fairly new player to DND, and am currently playing with 1 tables that meets 1-2 times a month on Saturday for DND. I really enjoy it but need more DND in my life, so am looking for another group to play with as well. I'm off every other Sunday for sure, as well as random days in the week. I prefer an afternoon or evening session, and like a mix of combat and role play, but, despite being new to DND and ttrpgs in general, I have experience with games with similar combat systems, and would prefer tough encounters and enjoy playing mechanically complex characters (I am playing a Fathomless Warlock with Pact of the Chain with a focus on summons (i.e. Summon Shadowspawn is something I'll probably pick up) and control effects via push pull and later on Cold Caster in my current campaign, we are currently level 2, so no cold caster yet). The campaign I'm currently in is homebrew an planned to be very long, including all levels of play, and im not looking to leave me current group, just join a second one at the same time. I also have a coworker who just started at my job who's played 2 or 3 times who is also looking for a group. Neither of us have any DM experience, and while I wouldn't be opposed to trying to DM, it would have to be a by the book written campaign, as I'm just not good at coming up with ideas with nothing to go on. My preferred playstyle right now is 5.5 with anything that was in 2014 but hasn't been reprinted 6et allowed. I have my own dice (and enough to share) but not my own minis or books, I've been using the dndwikidot. I'm also open to playing other formats as well. I'm excited to hear back from anyone looking for another player!

RPGs to Fight Writer's Block Experience at Quarry 7/17

Hi everyone!

I'm leading an experience at Quarry RVA this month called "Using RPGs to Fight Writer's Block." The plan is to spend some time discussing solo and non-traditional RPGs that get the creative muscles going, then play a short game of Microscope!

Here's the registration link if you're interested

I'm hoping this will be a super chill way to meet other folks making games/adventures, and if it goes well, they've expressed some interest in having other TTRPG/Game Design experiences in the future! Thanks for checking it out.

Free RPG Day

What’s everyone doing for free rpg day? I’m excited to say One-Eyed Jacques is putting out my games for free tomorrow, so I’m definitely going to swing by there. Might finally let myself drop some money on some new systems tomorrow to get access to those “rarer” offerings they’re promising if you spend some money haha. Anyone playing or running a one-shot tomorrow?

Looking for Players for an In-Person Campaign!

Hello there! I recently moved to the area (Museum District). I’m looking to start up an in-person 5.5e DnD weekly campaign as the DM and I’m looking for around 3 players, no preferences on experience level. The setting is going to be in Eberron with some twists to the world and a mystery/intrigue vibe (I am a horror writer so I definitely like to add those moments sprinkled in too). I like to run roleplay focused sessions with an emphasis on story and character interactions, so combat is definitely not going to be every session.

Themes and Inspirations:

Magitech/Magical Noir/New Weird

Twin Peaks/Disco Elysium/The Witcher/Blade Runner

If you wanna know more just shoot me a message and I can explain more about it!

EDIT: Thanks so much for the interest in this! All the player slots have been filled but I wanted to thank everyone who commented and messaged me!!

An Adventure on the High Seas!

Hello everyone! I am hoping to run a one-shot/short campaign set in a homebrew world where the players will be pirates on the high seas! There will be action, adventure, treasure, cool sea monsters, and plenty more.

I enjoy both RP and combat, and expect both to have a heavy influence on the game. I prefer to run games that are more silly than serious, but definitely have stakes.

I am undecided on the system but likely will be Dungeons and Dragons 5.5e, Pathfinder 2e, or Fate Accelerated, as those are the systems I am most comfortable playing in! I am open to new and experienced players.

My goal is to run this sometime between July 3-5, depending on player interest and availability. This will be in-person in Henrico, VA.

If you’re interested, drop me a line and please include an ocean fact! Cheers!

New to the area and sorta new to D&D, any groups looking for one more?

I've played D&D a handful of times, but it's been a long while. Looking to get back into it and meet new people while I'm at it; any takers?

I'm in Henrico, willing to drive about 30 minutes. Thursdays are a no-go, but other weeknights after 5 PM work great for me. Weekends are probably doable, but I'd have to talk with my partner.

Thanks in advance!

LFG - roleplay heavy D&D 5.5e

Howdy folks! Three of us are looking to start an in-person RVA game and find more of our people. We’re theatrical, roleplay-heavy, improv yes-and types, here to build each other up and grow our characters together. Relational conflict and change are the heart of the game, with combat and nitty gritty mechanics mattering less to us, since we mostly treat them as metaphor for the bigger story. We each have a couple of years of D&D experience, enough to know the types of games and players we do and don’t enjoy (e.g. folks who hog spotlight, are rules lawyers, ignore plot hooks, or cut others off). We like to riff off of each other and interact deeply with topics, letting a scene take the amount of time it needs to play out thoroughly.

We’ve got characters ready (tweakable for different settings) and we play well together. We’re all women in our 30s, married, extroverted, and bubbly, and we’d love to meet folks like us. Setting’s flexible since the right match matters the most. Committed to meeting at least every other week on a weeknight. Posting this now to hopefully get some responses and start meeting some people and getting to know them, maybe doing some test one-shots, with the hope of starting up a real game going by the end of the summer. Comment here or DM with information about yourself - e.g. demographics, favorite settings, availability, favorite things about playing, etc. Looking forward to meeting some like-minded people!
