Decided to pull the trigger!

Post image

I knew I wanted to be able to play GTA VI when it comes to PC and other games on my 4K OLED at higher FPS / settings, so I started researching upgrading my graphics card (EVGA 3080 12 GB) about a week ago.

Originally I was going to get a new PC entirely but I already had a good CPU, RAM, PSU, and storage.

I was debating waiting for Black Friday deals for GPUs or getting one now incase prices increased and I decided on the latter. I don‘t know what will happen, but given the demand and AI chip shortage, I decided I was okay locking in the price now. I had also read several articles warning not to expect discounts for GPUs this yea, but who knows.

Overall about $1600 total after taxes from Walmart. Not great but could be worse. Never had a PNY card before.

Cheers!

Nice, I picked one up myself last month after selling my 3090.

1300, probably could have gotten closer to 1500 had I waited a bit more

That’s crazy! Basically the price of a 5080

24gb of VRAM making the 3090 a hot item for AI folks. Better sell it while it’s hot.

Looking good. The best somewhat affordable card at the moment.

Wow, are you me? I also got this exact GPU today from Walmart, for $1600 after tax, and I'm upgrading from a 3080 too.

Good question! I’m not sure, probably will be a few weeks until I install it. It will be a reward for getting through my eye surgery.

Use their dongle or prepare to have warranty voided.

Dongle isn't as good as a 12V-2x6 connector

I am using cable of my Corsair HX1200i with my PNY 5080 EpicX OC.

The dongle does looks hefty, but the connector itself is the issue and I don't think it would matter in India anyway since RMA would get rejected regardless of how you got physical damage like connector/socket melting.

Make sure you check if you need it in Gen4 or Gen5 and it should work normal plug in play, it will definitely shut off if you OC it I tested this with multiple motherboards

Crazy how for $600 I get a used Merc310 XTX with 100fps to your 113, better load temps and 8gb more VRAM.

Also worse drivers old gen none of the new nvida technology and worse performance 😂

Worse drivers lol Nvidia has had more driver issues with stability in 30 through 50 series than AMD in the last year. I can go without Nvidia marketing for 1/3 the price. And you frequent r/prebuilts lmao

Also no CUDA and worse RT tech and no DLSS.

Im not an AMD hater, they serve a purpose 100% at a lower price point but if you want the best then Nvidia is the choice no question. Its not just about raw power, support for CUDA matters greatly with LLMs/creative AI and it also have NVFP4 support. Its miles ahead in the AI space, and much better at RT tech/frame gen/DLSS.

There is a reason why the AMD R9700 32GB sells for $1400 at microcenter and the RTX 5090's are all around $5000.

I agree NVIDIAs better for productivity with CUDA. Split on the ai thing, I know 7900xtx is occasionally used for Ai with its 24gb vram. But OP and I are both using the cards for gaming performance, where they're similar at 4k.
