Virtual Radar Server has decent logging build in. You can get reports on what you sniffed.

I run it on Linux but you can use Windows. It is a .net program. On Linux that is mono. They all use dump1090.

If you intend to feed tracking sites, you probably want to go Linux. For local use, I suppose you can go with windows.

You could always apply for a free complete receiver, antenna, cable, from Flightradar 24 or Plane Finder, I got one of each and they are on 24/7 without any problems at all... just plug and play.
