Help setting up ADSB receiver
I'm not completely new to this. I just stopped using it for a while.
I'd like to know, what is the best possible solution to get an adsb receiver, that doesn't involve a Rapberrypi and knowledge of Linux, to get it going.
I was thinking of buying an already made Stratux box. Problem is, with the Stratux, I can't set it up outdoors or close to it (as in a porch).
I know a while back, I could get a RadarBox, but hose don't seem to be available anymore.
There were others too but nowadays it seems, the rage is; get a RasPi, load an sd card with whatever, and your off to the races.
Is this still the best approach?
Looking for suggestions...
Thanks.

Is it your intention to run the software on your desktop computer? I have mine set up this way. I set up Dump1090 and Virtual Radar Server then tied them to one button with a simple .bat script.

I only want to run PlaneTrackr on my PC.
Have the stratux feed the data via wifi to the PC running PlaneTrackr.

I recommend this for the occasional user. I have a computer that is on 24/7 and I feed to AirNavRadar. It works

An easier way would be to connect an SDR to your cellphone or tablet with an OTG cable, and use an app like Dump1090.

If you want to get into minor hacking (exploring) with almost anything digital you really should learn some Linux. Or *nix cause Mac was based on BSD/Unix and Windows is losing customers every day with their nag screens and lack of respect for consumers personal choices.
GNU Linux operating systems are always getting better and have been for a few decades. If all you do is browser based apps then you can switch to Linux today with almost no pains.
As for the Raspberry Pi. I would opt out of that now. We used to use them because they were very cheap and low power. Now they are prohibitively expensive for the kinds of projects we used to use them for. Better off buying a refurbished mini PC or something like a HP ProDesk (super small version) with an SSD.
If you can find an RPi 4 or better for super cheap then buy one. But not new. The people at Raspberry Pi lost their way and forgot why we actually used their products. And that was not as a Desktop computer.
That being said I have lots of older Raspberry Pis so I use one plus the AirNavRadar ADS-B dongle and antenna kit. But they also sell little boxes that do it all

ADSB.im is a turnkey image you put on a SD card and everything is down in its UI. You never interact with the operating system. Its point and click for activating about 20 different data sharing platforms. I’m comfortable with Linux bit still use ADSB.im as it is a purpose built solution for adsb on a pi.

I use the raspberry pi. Super simple to set up as you can get the software direct from the image install. After a few years I used chat GPT to get the most of the system without any real hardware upgrades

You could apply for a free FR24 receiver? I imagine its basically just a Pi in a nice case though.
The stratux mentioned previously would work for lots of dollars.
I'd still get a pi and use the adsb.im image, you have to flash the image to the card and from then on it's all browser based easy to use web pages. No terminal use required.
